Hola, please complete enough of the activities below to earn the required amount of points for your level. Activities completed in Spanish earn double points (as indicated). Please be advised that you may not repeat an exact activity, nor complete the same activity in both languages. In addition, while you may watch more than one film, you must answer a different prompt each time to earn those points.

Spanish 1 = 50 Points

ALL Spanish 1 Students should complete their activities in English.

Spanish 2 = 100 Points

Students may complete up to 40 points in English. The remaining points MUST be completed in Spanish. NOTE: NO GOOGLE TRANSLATED SPANISH

Spanish 3/IB SL-1 & Spanish 4 = 140 Points Students MUST complete ALL activities in Spanish.

Activities

Please identify all locations and works (films, books, etc.) used in each assignment by name and address OR by MLA or APA format.

Points English (Spanish)

10 (20) points per prompt.

Only one prompt may be answered per film. Film must be originally made in a Spanish-speaking country! See list of suggested films if you are in doubt. Films may be watched with or without subtitles. 10 (20) points per prompt.

Only one prompt may be answered per book. Books MUST be originally written in Spanish and read in Spanish! No translations!

Activities

Watch a Spanish-Language Film and in at least 100 words complete ONE of the following prompts. Be sure to use evidence from the film in your response:

? Describe the person who changed the most from the beginning to the end of the film. Explain the change and what caused it.

? Describe a minor character in the film who had major importance. Explain why.

? Describe the major conflict in the film and how it was resolved. ? If you were a film critic, how would you rate this film? Why? ? If the movie had a sequel, what would happen? Why?

Read a Spanish-Language book and in at least 100 words complete ONE of the following prompts. Be sure to use evidence from the text in your response:

? Describe the character who changed the most from the beginning to the end of the book. Explain the change and what caused it.

? Describe a minor character in the book who had major importance. Explain why.

? Describe the major conflict in the book and how it was resolved. ? If you were a book critic, how would you rate this book? Why? ? Evaluate the ending of the book. Considering how the book unfolded, is it an

Go to the Art Museum of the Americas (201 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20006) choose a painting or sculpture by a Spanish-speaking artist and in at least 50 words complete ONE of the following prompts. Take a picture of yourself and the artwork.

? Describe the artwork and discuss why you like (or dislike) it. ? Describe the artwork and discuss why the title of the work is appropriate or

inappropriate. Interview a Native Spanish Speaker to find out about their country and culture. Your interview should last no more than 3-5 minutes. Write a summary of the person's responses in a paragraph of 50 to 100 words. You may want to ask about some of the following areas:

? Where they are from (city and country of origin) ? Favorite Food and why ? Favorite Song or Musician and why ? Favorite Movie and why ? A Favorite Tradition or Cultural Celebration and how it is celebrated ? Traditional or National Attire ? Favorite Sport and Team

10 (20) points per restaurant.

*Although there are no additional points for completing this assignment in Spanish, Level 3 and above MUST STILL COMPLETE THIS TASK IN SPANISH!

Need help finding someone to interview? Make an appointment at one of the several local embassy of a Spanish-speaking country. Go to the Mexican Cultural Institute (2829 16th St NW, Washington, DC 20009). Attend a cultural event. Go to a Hispanic or Latin restaurant here in Washington and try one of the following dishes. Then write a review of the restaurant AND the dish you tried. Write at least 50 words and take a picture of you and the food item!

Articles MUST be originally written or recorded in Spanish AND read or listened to in Spanish! No translations!

Read an article in a Spanish-language newspaper or magazine OR listen to a Spanishlanguage podcast or news report and complete 5 of the following sentence starters. Write at least 100 words in total:

Travel to a Spanish-Speaking Country and complete ALL of the following. Write at least 500 words in total for this activity:

? Where you went, with whom, and for what purpose ? What you did and what you saw in the country ? Something new you learned about the country, its people or their culture ? What most surprised you about the people or their culture ? Take at least 5 pictures of you and cultural artifacts in the country (i.e.:

monuments, food items specific to the country, people in cultural dress, etc.). Write a caption for each picture.
