INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLYING FOR THE LOVELAND COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS On-line application

Any student wishing to apply for a scholarship awarded by a local organization must complete this application. THE APPLICATION MUST CONTAIN A PERSONAL LETTER, A TRANSCRIPT OF GRADES AND THREE LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. Include your FAFSA Student Aid Report or financial information as indicated on page 3. Be accurate in the preparation of this application. Numerous people representing various organizations and scholarship committees will review it. Some scholarship committees require each school to do preliminary screening and limit the number of scholarships that can be submitted on to the next level. Please submit your completed application to Mrs. Morris 12th grade counselor in the Rabbit Ears Center. In preparing your scholarship application, the following procedure should be followed:

l. Complete the scholarship application carefully. To complete this application from an e-mail attachment,

¬ Tab between the fields.

¬ To tab within a field, use CONTROL AND TAB.

¬ Complete the application

¬ Unprotect the application (go to tools and unprotect the document)

¬ To save the application, use “Save As” and rename it

¬ Once the application is unprotected, use your mouse to make any corrections

¬ Save and print.

Supply all the information requested because an incomplete application will not be effective.

2. Prepare a personal letter to accompany your application form. This letter should be one page in length and should include:

a. information that was not adequately explained in the application form b. reasons why you plan to continue your education beyond high school c. your ambitions and goals

d. reasons why you feel you merit consideration for a scholarship award e. a detailed description of your community service commitments

f. extenuating circumstances regarding your family financial situation that should be considered.

3. Complete application form in its entirety, including your FAFSA SAR Report. DO NOT staple the application. (Counselor will fill out the counselor evaluation page once it is turned in).

4. Print an unofficial transcript from your parent portal account which is to be included with your scholarship application.

5. Request three (3) letters of recommendation from people who are familiar with you. They may include a teacher, employer or former employer, a neighbor, a minister or priest, a professional person such as a doctor. In any case, the individuals from whom you request these letters of recommendation should know you well. IT WILL BE ENTIRELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN THESE LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

6. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE COMPLETED AND ON TUNRED IN BY MARCH 6, 2015. This deadline must be observed if you wish to be considered for all available local Loveland scholarships. Turn in completed applications to Mrs. Morris in the Rabbit Ears Center. Please secure it with a paperclip.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE THROUGH THIS APPLICATION

The following Scholarship Committees use the Loveland Community Scholarship Application to select their scholarship recipients. Dollar amounts listed are based on 2013-2014 awards; amounts listed below may vary from year to year. Please mark an “X” in the box of each scholarship for which you qualify to apply and submit this check sheet with your application:

Amos Allard Memorial Scholarship: Emphasis placed on the student’s citizenship and involvement with worthwhile community and high school activities. ($500)

David Baily Rotary Scholarship: Financial need, high G.P.A., promising student. ($2,300)

Erna & Neil Mentzer Music Scholarship : The Erna and Neil Mentzer Music Scholarship is awarded to students who will continue their post-secondary education in the area of instrumental music. In some incidences, consideration will be given to students who plan to continue their education in the area of vocal music. ($500)

Jabaily Community Service Scholarship: Senior in good standing whose life activities demonstrate true compassion and service for other human beings. Applicants must include a 1-2 page double-spaced essay detailing how their life and activities demonstrate true compassion and service for other human beings and include their post-secondary plans and career goals. Recommendations letters must specifically address service and compassion. Financial need is not a consideration. ($1,200)

GMC Scholarship. Must be involved in a minimum of one school sanctioned after school activity. Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA (or 3.75 GPA for senior year only). ($500)

Loveland Garden Club: Student pursuing a career in the horticultural field or related area. Students must address a letter of intent to the scholarship committee; include college major and school plans. Financial need not considered. ($1,000)

Loveland Lions Club: Financial need. Good student with desire to attend college. ($1,000)

Loveland Mountain View Rotary Scholarship: Emphasis placed on high school seniors who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service. APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE A 500

WORD ESSAY ON THE ROTARY 4-WAY TEST: IS IT THE TRUTH? IS IT FAIR TO ALL CONCERNED? DOES IT BUILD GOOD WILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? WILL IT BE BENEFICIAL TO ALL CONCEREND? GPA is not a consideration. (Amount varies between $1,000-

Lucile Erwin Scholarship: Student with financial need who exhibits real potential in a vocational service occupation (ex: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, dental hygienist, etc.) Preference may be given to a student who has overcome adversity. ($1,000 – may vary)

Marge Schafer Nursing Scholarship: Student who has been admitted to an accredited college/university planning to pursue a RN or BSN degree. (Amount Varies)

McKee Medical Center Auxiliary: Student planning to major in a health career. Financial need and GPA

considered. ($1,500 to $5,000)

Loveland Golden K Kiwanis Scholarship (Formerly known as Neil and Catherine Hamilton Scholarship) : Preference given to students who need financial assistance. Academic, extracurricular and out-of-school activities considered. GPA is not a primary consideration. ($1,000)

Philanthropic Educational Organizations (PEO): Female applicants

Chapter L (Hannah Vorreiter Scholarship): GPA, extra-curricular and church involvement, preference given to Cottey College students ($500)

Chapter GU: Financial need, involvement in volunteer activities (Amount Varies)

Chapter FL: Financial need, GPA, preference given to Cottey College students ($1,000)

Road Knights Scholarship: Student pursuing any career in the automotive industry. ($1,000)

Rotary Club: Student with financial need who has overcome challenges. ($8,000)

Sierra Marie Krizman Memorial Scholarship: APPLICANTS FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP MUST ATTACH A PARAGRAPH EXPLAINING THEIR KNOWLEDGE/AWARENESS OF MENINGITIS. Student continuing education toward a career in teaching; must have received or plan to receive meningitis vaccination. Extracurricular activities and GPA considered. ($500 to $1,000)

Ted and Mable Thompson Loveland Valentine Scholarship: Financial need, initiative and potential considered. GPA is not a factor. (Amount varies)
