MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Background: This scholarship has been established by the members of the Henry Ford College Operations Council in the amount $1,000 for the benefit of “At Risk” student(s) attending Henry Ford College.

The purpose of the Helping Hawks Scholarship is to increase retention and success of “At Risk” attending Henry Ford College. Identified “At Risk” populations include, but are not limited to, students that are homeless, wards of the court, recently released from incarnation, residing in shelters, utilizing Assisted Learning Services, and first generation students that are single custodial parents.

Purpose: It is the Donors’ intent to provide financial support to assist students who are current students of Henry Ford College. The intent of Helping Hawks is to assist students that been directly impacted by a significant life challenge, and continue to strive towards an educational goal.

Award

Criteria: One, or more depending upon amount raised annually, scholarship(s) from this fund will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:

• Recipient must have a minimum 2.0 GPA

• Completed a minimum of 24 credit hours during their academic career.

• Currently enrolled at HFC at least half time

• Identify at least one life hardship that threatens educational achievement and provide documentation.

• Must complete a 500-word essay on the following topic: 

“Receiving this scholarship will help me reach my educational goals at HFC by allowing me to…”

Donors’

Request: Recipients of the award will be made aware of the source of the scholarship. Award distributions will be as follows up to $500 Fall semester, $500 Winter semester. Any remaining funds to be distributed to an additional scholarship recipient in equal portions for Fall and Winter. Should a recipient not enroll for both Fall and Winter, the funds will be applied to the primary or secondary candidate. All scholarship funds must be distributed in the current academic school year.

Funds not used will be forfeited.

Funding

Guidelines: The award may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies/instruments, and transportation and living expenses. Funds will be provided to HFC Foundation on or before December 31st of each year, to make awards available for the Fall academic year.

Fund Supervision: All student awards will be made in compliance with Henry Ford College Foundation and Henry Ford College Financial Aid procedures and applicable regulations of the State of Michigan and the Federal Government. Henry Ford College reserves the right to modify or disregard any selection criteria if it is determined that the criteria are contrary to the law or existing college policy.

Additional gifts to this scholarship fund may be made at any time. Whenever it appears that changing conditions make the provisions of this agreement no longer applicable, practical or suited to the general purposes stated above, the Foundation will confer with the Donor or the Donors’ Representative to secure a modification of the plan. If the Foundation is unable to locate the Donor or the Donors’ Representative after reasonable efforts, the Foundation is authorized to use the fund for any other suitable purpose to provide the maximum service to the community through the advancement of higher education.

Review: The Donors’ Representative will be provided an accounting of the Fund from the Henry Ford College Foundation upon request.
