5th Grade Summer Math ReviewFor students entering 6th grade mathematicsMay , 2013 Dear incoming 6th Grade Math Student, As the summer begins, the last thing on our minds is practicing mathematics. Summer vacation is a great time to relax and rest up. However, many students will forget math facts during the summer months simply because they never review them. Just a little bit of regular math practice will help you to make sure that returning to school next fall is not overwhelming. Your task is to complete two math exercises each week during the summer. This will ensure that you get the regular practice you need to enter 6th grade and be successful. Remember a few tips: ??Don’t complete the whole packet at once; complete 2 pages each week. The pacing matters and there is little benefit to doing this all at once. ??Your 6th grade math teacher will collect the packet and reward those who have completed it with EXTRA CREDIT!??Grade your own work using the answer key. ??Keep track of your progress using the progress chart. ??Don’t use the answer key until you have completed all the problems. Remember, it would be easy to just write in all the answers, but this won’t help you in the fall. ??Get help if you can’t do something (ask a parent, sibling, tutor, teacher, or family member). ??If you are doing something incorrectly, STOP. Do not practice bad habits. Find out what you are doing wrong before you continue these types of problems. I hope you all have an enjoyable and restful summer.
