6th Grade Jingle Composition Project

Who: An assigned group of 3 group members What: A short commercial "selling" a Wyndcroft based product or service When: Performances on October 31st and November 1st

Your goal is to create a mini-commercial that will "sell" a Wyndcroft service or product. You can choose from the following list:

Salad Bar/Lunch food Team Sports Chorus Upper School Musical Chapel Language Program (Latin or French) Club Periods Advisory Everything Google Gaga Pit Outdoor Classroom

Other Wydcroft-related suggestions will be considered, but must be approved.

Your final commercial will be graded according to the provided grading rubric. This project is worth 30 points and represents 30% of your final grade.

Requirements:

Length Your commercial must be at least 30 seconds long.

Your commercial should not exceed 2 minutes. Your notated Jingle should be at least 4 measures long.

Jingle The final notation must include the following: A title, time signature, bar lines, double bar line at the end, a defined rhythm, and lyrics that correspond correctly to the rhythm. Your composition must end on "C".

All group members must sing the Jingle during the commercial.

Your lyrics must adhere to a rhyme scheme. (AABB or ABAB)

Script Each member of the group must speak at least once.

You must include at least one prop.

Final Draft A final draft of the packet (containing the "Brainstorm" worksheet, "Rhythm Notation" worksheet, "Melody Notation" worksheet and "Script") is due from each member of your group. Your packet is due on October 31st at the beginning of class.

Your commercial must contain movement. (Please do not stand completely still!)

You will be graded both individually and as a group.

You will complete this project in class over 2 weeks (6 class periods). The following is a suggested schedule of goals for each class day. Remember, these are only guidelines. If you feel that your group needs more time, if someone is absent, or you miss a class, you are encouraged to find time to work outside of class time.

Class #1 o Receive project guidelines o Choose your group's product/service o Complete the "Brainstorm" worksheet in final packet

Class #2 o Write lyrics to the jingle o Compose a rhythm to match the syllables of your lyrics o Write rhythm and lyrics on "Rhythm Notation" worksheet in final packet

Class #3 o Use a xylophone to add melody notes (You must end on "C"!) o Transfer rhythm/lyrics/melody to "Melody Notation" worksheet (staff paper) in final packet

Class #4 o Practice singing your jingle on correct notes and rhythms o Groups conference with Miss Exley o Begin writing script o Decide on props

Class #5 o Practice singing your jingle on correct notes and rhythms o Groups conference with Miss Exley o Write script on "Script" worksheet in final packet o Decide on movement

Class #6 o Rehearse entire commercial (You will need your props!) o Edit and revise as needed o Read through rubric with group members to ensure completion of project

October 31st o Hand in FINAL PACKET containing your Brainstorm, Rhythm, Melody, and Script. o Performances begin.

November 1st o Performances continue (if needed)

The Jingle is thoughtfully composed, with a variety of notes and rhythms. The script fulfills its purpose and the commercial is designed with a

clear goal in mind. All requirements for the project are

fulfilled.

All required worksheets are completed. The written notation

includes all required components. The packet is completed neatly and with correct spelling and grammar. It is clear that the student put forth effort to complete the project.

5-7 The presenters are mostly prepared. The performance of the jingle mostly matches the written notation. Most of the time, you can clearly hear and understand the performers.

The Jingle is thoughtfully composed, though it includes

many repetitive notes and rhythms. The script mostly fulfills its purpose and the commercial may or may not accomplish its goal. Most of the requirements for the

project are fulfilled. All required worksheets are

completed. The written notation includes most of the

required components. The packet is completed, though it may be illegible at times and may lack proper spelling and

grammar. It is clear that student put forth effort to

complete the project.

0-4 The presenters are obviously

not prepared for the performance. The performance

of the jingle does not match the written notation. You cannot clearly hear and understand the performers. The Jingle was composed

carelessly and the notes and rhythms are not accurate. The

script may or may not be applicable to the project. Some

of the requirements for the project are fulfilled.

Not all required worksheets are completed. The written

notation does not include all of the required components. The packet may not be completed,

may be illegible, and lacks careful effort on the part of the

student.

IMPORANT: The grading rubric assumes the following... Your jingle composition is written with correct notes and rhythms. You include the correct number of beats per measure. Your lyrics match exactly with the written rhythm. Your jingle is at least 4 measures long. Your lyrics include a rhyme scheme. (AABB or ABAB) Your commercial is the correct length. Plus...other requirements! Please make sure to check the requirements chart before submitting your project!
