The course enables students to study and analyze compelling literature and to explore author’s craft. The student will read a target number of books or word count equivalent from a variety of genres, subjects and disciplines. The student expands his or her choices of writing modes and the students explore different types of sentence structure and more complex convention techniques. The student will compose writing in a variety of genres (narrative, expository, technical, response to literature, and argumentative) and increase abilities in writing, editing, and proofreading. The student will engage in oral presentations and dramatic interpretation; the student will explore the effects of media images, texts, and sounds. The student will continue learning the components of research. Time will be allotted in class to work on the rough draft. Parent Portal enables family members to track the progress of their student.Grades will be based on the number of items correct on a particular assignment. For example, if a class assignment has 8 questions, and 7 are correct, a score of 7 out of 8 is earned. The percentage is calculated by the computer. Students are always encouraged to correct their incorrect HomeworkHomework is based upon needed remediation and is due the following school day after being assigned.AttendanceRegular school attendance is an important part of a student's learning process. Good attendance habits should be developed early on in a student’s education career, starting from middle school all the way up to high school. Students who regularly attend school are more likely to graduate from high school with a good education. Students who are absent from school are required to bring a written excuse for the absence their?first day back at?school.?Truant is defined as any child who has more than?5 days of unexcused absences during the academic year.Absent and Late WorkA student who missed school is required to make-up their work. Each student is to look in the Late/Make-Up Work folder to see what he/she missed.Bathroom PolicyStudents are expected to use the restroom during scheduled bathroom breaks or during emergencies.
