Class Schedule:

Below is an approximate schedule of our day. It may change slightly throughout the school year.

7:50 – 8:15 Homeroom

8:20 – 9:35 1st Block

9:40 – 10:55 2nd Block

11:00 – 12:40 3rd Block

12:05 – 12:30 Lunch

12:45 - 2:00 4th Block

2:05 – 3:15 5th Block / Connections

Materials: Students are expected to provide and have available for every class:

- 2 pencils

- Composition Book

- Handheld pencil sharpener

- Colored pencils, crayons, or markers (Optional, class sets are available)

Science Fair: All students will participate in the science fair. Most of this project will be completed at home. Students will need a tri-fold board and means to decorate it. They will also need a separate log book (composition or spiral). A detailed timeline of expectations will be provided within the first few weeks of school.

Notebook: Students are expected to keep a science notebook. Students are responsible for all notebook assignments, and notebooks will be checked for content on a regular basis. The grades for these notebook checks will count as a daily grade.

Homework: Homework is given periodically. Students are expected to record homework that is posted on the board, and turn it in to the teacher in a timely manner. Every student should study their notes EVERY night. All assignments not completed in class are automatically considered homework due the following day.

Beginning of Class Procedures: All students are expected to enter the classroom quietly and have a seat. The first 5 minutes should be spent:

1. Completing the warmup for the day

2. Turning in homework

3. Copying homework from the board to the agenda

4. Sharpening pencil

Class Expectations: All students are expected to adhere to the following:

1. Be Respectful

2. Be Responsible

3. Follow Directions

Curriculum Guide:

Unit 1 – Ecology

Unit 2 – Energy Flow and Nutrient Cycling

Unit 3 – Structure and Function of Cells

Unit 4 – Organization of Life

Unit 5 – Biological Traits and Heredity

Unit 6 – Evidence of Evolution

Absences and Missed Work: Students are responsible for asking for, and making up any missed work due to absence, in-school suspension, or out-of-school suspension. Students are expected to make up any class work, assessments, and homework in a timely manner. Failure to do so will result in a 0, and will greatly affect the student’s grade average. It is the student’s responsibility to ask for missed work.

Late Assignments: Late assignments will be accepted with the following penalties:

- 5 point deduction for each day late, up to 10 days.

- After 10 days, student may be required to complete an alternate assignment to receive partial credit.

Grades: Grades are calculated on the following scale:

- Classwork = 45%

- Unit Assessments = 15%

- Quizzes = 15%

- Projects = 15%

- Homework = 10%

Discipline Plan:

1st offense: Verbal Warning

2nd offense Loss of Privilege (Silent Lunch). You will be required to fill out a reflection form.

◦ This may include seat change, time-out, call home, note home, silent lunch, etc

3rd offense: Detention

4th offense: Student will be cross teamed for 1-2 days (Parent MUST be notified prior to)

5th offense: Parent Conference

6th offense: Office Referral

**Each offense will be documented on each students discipline framework**

**Parents will be called or emailed for each offense**
