If a student is not at school, it is his/her responsibility for making up any missed work within two days upon returning to school. It is also their responsibility to get notes and any homework that they missed as well. Students should check the class website, speak with the teacher before or after school, if necessary and check the absent work folders hanging on the classroom door for any handouts from the day(s) they missed.

Classroom Procedures:

-Come to class prepared (have all necessary materials and assignments)

-Enter classroom and be in your seat, beginning the bell ringer BEFORE the bell rings

-Complete assignments by the due date (late work will be penalized) and turn in assignments (with your full name, date, and period) to the tray corresponding to your class period

-Exhibit a growth mindset and show integrity ALWAYS

-Complete the exit ticket BEFORE leaving the classroom

Student Expectations:

*Students must follow all school rules and expectations

*Students will follow directions the first time they are given

*Students will be kind with their words and actions

*Students will be engaged during class and try their best

*Students will accept responsibility for their actions

Classroom Management:

~I allow students to remain in my classroom as long as they do not cause a problem for anyone else.

~If they cause a problem, I will ask them to fix it.

~If they can’t or will not fix it, they will receive a consequence that will depend on the unique situation.

~Students will be asked to “reset” when exhibiting inappropriate behavior and may be asked to “reflect” if

inappropriate behavior persists followed by additional consequences, if needed.

~Students exhibiting appropriate behaviors will be recognized for their efforts.

Cornell Note Taking:

Students will be expected to take notes using the style referred to as “Cornell Notes.” As part of their homework, students are required to study these notes for 10 minutes, every 24 hours, for 7 days. An example of how to complete Cornell notes can be seen below.

Bell Ringer and Exit Tickets:

As part of their classwork, students will be given a question to answer at the beginning and end of each class period, referred to as a bell ringer (to review and help activate their prior knowledge of the topic for the day) and an exit ticket (to help review and assess what they learned during the class period). These will be projected on the classroom screen and posted on the class website for when students are absent. They will be written on a clean sheet of paper each week and turned in on Fridays for a grade.

Communication:

Please email Ms. Herman with any questions, comments, or concerns. If a face-to-face meeting or phone call is needed, it can be scheduled at a time that is convenient for both parties. For questions about class happenings, the class website is an excellent resource. To check grades, please log into PowerSchool. The Remind app will be utilized throughout the year as well. It will generate text message reminders for upcoming assignments and tests. This is also a great way to communicate your questions and feedback.
