6TH Grade Social StudiesGrading Policies and ExpectationsABSENCESStudent is responsible for:Learning the content and making up assignments that were missed after an excused absence.Asking for missed work or collecting it from my absent folder and checking my website under homework.Turning in the makeup work; the teacher is NOT responsible for requesting or guaranteeing student makes up work.In the case of an excused absence, student will be granted one extra day per absence to turn in an assignment without penalty.Parent is responsible for:??Minimizing the days the student is absent and making sure student is at school unless serious medical issue is present.CLASSROOM GUIDELINES FOR POSITIVE BEHAVIORStudents are expected to "Get caught being a Grizzly!"BE SAFE!l. Enter and exit the classroom silently and calmly2. Place backpacks under your chair and all liquids tightly capped inside backpacks3. Keep hands, feet, and all objects to yourselfBE RESPONSIBLE!l. Organize assignments in a folder by subject and record all assignments in your reminder binder or paper calendar2. Check the classroom website daily, especially when absent, Check Pinnacle weekly3. Come prepared and always give your best effortBE RESPECTFUL!l. When others are speaking look at them and show appropriate body language2. Use quiet voices during group work, and support each other's efforts3. Be polite and considerate?I also encourage the team approach using the Fish Philosophy: Be There, Play, Make Their Day, Choose Your Attitude. This allows us to work together in groups therefore students are simultaneously engaged in learning within a safe environment.If a student is having trouble following our classroom rules the parents will be contacted by email or phone.GRADINGHomework: 0% of overall grade BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THEIR DAILY SKILL DEVELOPMENT.? I expect students to ALWAYS complete their homework. I only give review work, class work completion, studying for quizzes and tests, and?reading for homework and it rarely requires a lot of time.? Completing homework prepares them for tests. I record homework periodically?as an assignment.? This way you may check on Pinnacle to see if your student is completing and returning homework.Classwork:Cornell Notes will completed at the beginning of each Unit. Students will use a highlighter to identify topic sentences and supporting details in a given article. Then copy them onto a Cornell Note taking sheet.? These are worth 20 points. I will model and guide students through the first few articles.? This will help strengthen expository reading comprehension skills.Unit Study Guide Packets for each unit will be completed for each Ancient Unit of Study. These follow the chapters of each unit in the social studies textbook.? They are worth 100 points.? Students will be given a grading sheet so that they know what is expected for each section.Geography Challenge Packets for each unit of study with points based on the number of questions and proper map labeling. Comprehension questions must be answered in complete sentences that restate the question and have correct capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.?Assessments/Projects:Weekly or biweekly content and reading strategies tests will evaluate students' study skills and development of?social studies?content.One comprehensive Benchmark test around the 9th week covering skills and strategies to? that point.Projects will be either individual or collaborative group. Group members will each receive the same grade based on overall presentation. Rubrics will be given out in class and will be fully explained at the time each project is assigned.Semester Final:Assesses the concepts taught over the entire semester.Given last week of the semester.
