Behavior Policies
Our classrooms will support learning through a positive approach to classroom management. We value group work and perseverance. Our behavior policies focus on making the classroom an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for everyone. Your child will receive lots of encouragement. Please know that if your child could use improvement in any behavior area, his/her teacher will contact you. Feel free to contact the teacher at any time if you have any concerns.

Grades
Students are evaluated in three separate areas.
History/Social Studies Academic:
Assessments – 35%
Projects – 25% (collaboration, simulations and other group work)
Quizzes – 25%
Assignments – 15% (individual classwork/homework)
ELA Academic:
Reading:
• Projects/Assessments – 40%
• Response to Literature/Analysis – 25% (Wordly Wise E)
• Accelerated Reader – 20%
• Response to Literature Quizzes – 15%
Writing:
• Writing Conventions Assessments (spelling, grammar and mechanics) – 35%
• Writing Assignments – 25% (individual classwork/homework, Wordly Wise A-D)
• Writing Applications (formal essay) – 20%
• Writing Strategies (Wordly Wise Quizzes – vocabulary enrichment for word choice, thesis statements, transitions, details, etc.) – 20%
History/Social Studies – ELA Effort Grade:
• Classwork, Homework, Group Work, Participation
History/Social Studies– ELA Citizenship Grade:
• Behavior, Attitude, Group Work, Participation
Assessment Re-Takes for Mastery:
• A student who earns a score below 70% on any assessment may retake it for a higher grade within two weeks of the original test date. A “Request to Retest” form must be completed and turned in to the teacher. Arrangements will then be made with the teacher for an appropriate time for a retake.
Effort Grades
• Homework is graded on a completed/not-completed basis and may be turned in late (within two weeks) for partial credit. Students must show all work/give complete responses to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts.
• Incomplete work is not accepted; please complete the assignment and turn in.
• It is the student’s responsibility to find out what assignment(s) that he/she has missed while absent. Please refer to the website, a peer buddy or speak with the teacher. Remember, there is no substitute for learning in school. Please make every effort to schedule vacations and appointments outside of the school day.
Citizenship Grades
• Citizenship grades are based on a student’s Behavior, Attitude, Group Work, Participation
• Students must earn a grade of Outstanding or Satisfactory through extra effort (including participation), responsibility (including being on time and bringing materials to school), behavior and attitude.
Web Grades
• Academic grades can be accessed at any time through the school’s website.
