RESPECT, A Musical Journey to open at the

STUART STREET PLAYHOUSE

~ Previews to begin Thursday, September 17 ~

BOSTON – RESPECT, A Musical Journey, the acclaimed musical celebrating women through American popular music, begins previews at the Stuart Street Playhouse in Boston on Thursday, September 21. Running for a limited engagement through November 26 (??), press night is set for Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 (7:30?) p.m. From Gershwin’s “Someone To Watch Over Me” to Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” RESPECT takes a funny, exuberant look at women’s lives as reflected in pop music.

Written by popular music authority, Dorothy Marcic, the production chronicles four women and the songs they listened to at important milestones in their lives. RESPECT features an ensemble cast of four, a live band, and more than 60 favorite songs, including “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend;” “Mr. Sandman;” “Whatever Lola Wants;” “Dedicated to the One I Love;” “These Boots are Made for Walkin;” “I Am Woman;” “I Will Survive;” “Hero” and of course, Aretha Franklin’s “R-E-S-P-E-C-T.”

“In creating RESPECT, I used popular music to reveal how women have evolved throughout the 20th century,” says Marcic. “Because RESPECT is a show filled with music and humor, it has had tremendous reactions from all ages and genders - even men love this show!”

RESPECT debuted as a one-woman show in 1999. It has played in a dozen U.S. cities as well as in Australia, South Africa, England, Holland and Israel. Most recently, it enjoyed extended engagements in Ft. Lauderdale and Chicago.

Critics rave RESPECT is a hit! “Somewhere between ‘Oprah’ and ‘Mamma Mia,” The Chicago Tribune continues to say, “RESPECT is a savvy, self-confident, good time!” The Miami Herald states, “There’s something very spirit-refreshing and empowering about seeing your life experiences… reflected in an uplifting way onstage.’ The Boca Raton News wrote that RESPECT gets “a big thumbs-up from a cheering throng,” and the New Times exclaims, “RESPECT is high-energy, historical and hysterical!”
