Teacher Expectations

1. Students must be on time for class. After every three tardies, a referral will be sent to the office.

*Citizenship deduction

2. Students are expected to come to class prepared. This means homework is to be completed and students should have in their possession: completed homework, a pencil, and binder.

*Citizenship deduction

3. Students are responsible for completing nightly homework assignments. Math is an area where practice will aid significantly in understanding. When possible, homework will not be assigned on weekends. When necessary to assign work over the weekend, the assignments will be shortened in length.

4. Students absent are responsible for collecting missed assignments and worksheets from the homework table in the front of the room. Notes need to be obtained from a reliable classmate. Students not understanding the missed material should make arrangements with the teacher for extra help.

5. Students are expected to get a drink and use the restroom before class or at the break.

*Citizenship deduction

*Rules violated will result in a 3 point deduction from classroom citizenship points.

Complete list of deductions is on last page.

Behavior

Students are expected to behave in a manner that aids my ability to teach and allows fellow classmates and themselves to learn. This includes respecting themselves, others and property around them; coming to class prepared; staying in seat unless given permission to do otherwise, participating in classroom activities, and following the rules set forth by the student handbook.

Grading Policy

Each nine week period, grades are determined on the points accumulated from tests, quizzes, homework, class work and class participation.

Grading scale is as follows:

A 100-92% B 91-84% C 83-72% D 71-60% F 59-0%

Periodically students will be given the opportunity to earn bonus points. The student, however, should not depend upon these points to achieve an adequate grade.

Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student found cheating will receive a zero for his/her work, the parent/guardian will be notified, and a referral will be sent to the office.

Special Notes

If at anytime you have a problem or concern, please see me as soon as possible to get it resolved.

I can be available before or after school for additional help. Please see me to make arrangements.

This syllabus is tentative and subject to change at the teacher’s discretion.

Dear Parent:

In order to have a positive year, I am asking for your help. My personal philosophy as both a teacher and a parent, is that we have to work as a team and communicate with one another in order for your child to be successful. Below I have listed several statements and would like your feedback on all that are applicable. I am asking for an email address in addition to a phone number or numbers where you may be reached. Whenever possible, I will try to communicate via phone, however email allows communication to be made regardless of a person’s availability.

Please read through the syllabus with your child. I have covered it in detail with the students and will answer any questions that you or your child may have. I ask that each of you sign it and return it to me. I will hold onto the signature page and have your child put the requirements page into his/her notebook for future reference.

If you should need to reach me, my email is “jkitchen@reynolds.k12.pa.us” and my phone number is 724-646-5500, extension 7026. Thank you in advance for your time in helping to make this a successful year.

CITIZENSHIP

There has been a citizenship policy put in place district wide. This policy is designed to promote respect and responsibility. Each teacher has their own personal way in which to enforce the citizenship rules. For me, the students begins each nine weeks with 60 citizenship points. For each infraction, the student loses 3 points. I have listed the possible infractions below. For substitutes and tests, the infraction is doubled.

o Late to class

o Unprepared (no notes, no book, no pencil)

o Talking

o Disruptive behavior

o Disrespectful

o Hall pass (2 emergency passes per 9 weeks)

o Cell phone present

o Profanity

o Sleeping or head down

o Not working/not compliant

o Food/drink present

o Doing work from other classes
