Mr. Rivard's Class Web Page:

Goal:

To encourage and help students to become mathematical thinkers who apply their knowledge when solving real world problems.

Course Objectives:

• To deepen and extend understanding of linear and exponential relationships.

• To contrast linear and exponential relationships with each other and engage in methods for analyzing, solving, and using quadratic functions.

• To extend the laws of exponents to square and cube roots.

• To apply linear models to data that exhibits a linear trend.

Content:

• Expressions and Functions

• Linear Equations

• Linear and Non-Linear Functions

• Equations of Linear Functions

• Linear Inequalities

• Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities

• Exponents and Exponential Functions

• Polynomials

• Quadratic Functions and Equations

• Statistics

Resources:

• The primary resources will be the Glencoe Algebra 1 text book and online text book resources from McGraw/Hill.

Supplies:

• Lots of Pencils!!

• Binder or notebook

Classwork Policy:

• Every day, students will be given classwork assignments which are due at the end of class. All work will be collected at the end of class and checked over. When assignments are returned, students who did not finish their work or did not get full credit will be allowed to take the work home and finish it, or correct what they did wrong. After finishing or fixing their work, students can resubmit their work to earn back credit that they may have lost. Students will be expected to return their completed work the next day.

Homework Policy:

• 2 - 3 homework assignments will be given each week:

o Homework 1: Vocabulary (due on Thursday)

o Homework 2 and 3: Practice (due on Wednesday and Friday)

• There may be additional homework which will be due the day after it was assigned. The following are examples of additional homework:

o Classwork that was not completed during class.

o Extra practice problems that are assigned because students are working on a group activity.

Each assignment is expected to be completed by the due date. Homework that is turned in late will be accepted, but may lose credit.

Assessment Correction Policy:

• Assessments (tests, quizzes, probes...) will be given through out the school year. Students will have the opportunity to fix their tests/quizzes for a better grade if they choose to. A handout concerning this policy will be given out at a later time, or you can go online to my class website to download the full policy.

After School Help:

• Typically there will be after school help on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Grading:

TBA

Absences:

Class Expectations:

• Come to class ready to learn.

• Be respectful of everyone.

• Always be on task during class.

• Take care of the classroom.

Behavior:

All students are expected to:

• Be respectful and courteous to all staff and students.

• Act in a way that is not disruptive to the educational process.
