CELL PROJECT - GRADE 8

[Pages:5]CELL PROJECT - GRADE 8

For this project you will be making a representation of an animal or plant cell in the form of a diagram or a model. -You may choose to model each cell by drawing a 2-D picture, cutting out objects or making a 3-D model. This is your opportunity to show your creativity, so if you have an additional idea please feel free to come and tell me about it. - Your project may be edible or non-edible. If you choose to make an edible project to be eaten in class, please do not use any peanut products.

-Your representation of the organelles must be realistic, similar to the ones seen in class. For example, your nucleus cannot be square. This kind of stuff will be graded in your rubric in the "Organelles present in model" section. Use the pages from our science readings, the textbook or websites that you find trustworthy. - You will include a description of the job of each organelle with your project. - Use the attached rubric and checklist as a guideline. - Other than that, aim to be creative and have fun!

CELL PROJECT FINAL RUBRIC

Name: ____________________________________________

Criteria

The Student:

Has all organelles present and labelled properly

Score

Below the Approaching Meets the Exceeds the standard the standard standard standard

More than three cell organelles are missing

Three cell organelles are missing

One or two cell organelles are missing

All cell organelles were included

____/4

Has all organelles of the cell appropriately modelled (approximate size and shape)

The size and/or shape of more than three cell organelles are inappropriate

The size and/or shape of three cell organelles are inappropriate

The size and/or shape of one or two cell organelles are inappropriate

The size and shape of all cell organelles are appropriate

____/4 x2

Has colourfully and neatly modelled the cell

The model does not have any colour (black/white pencil).

The model has limited colour (only two colours used).

The model has three colours used.

The model has more than three colours used.

____/4

Labels are illegible

Labels are illegible

The labels are legible

The labels are legible and easy to read.

The model lacks creativity and more effort could be used.

The model shows some effort and creativity.

The model shows a satisfactory level of creativity and effort.

The model shows a high level of creativity and effort.

The student can clearly explain the parts and functions of the cell when presenting.

The teacher could ask you to show them your project and explain, or your mark on the cells section of the unit test could reflect on how well you score in this section.

4 or more parts and/or functions were not correctly explained. They relied completely on the model labels when explaining

TOTAL MARKS:

/32

3-4 of the parts and/or functions were not correctly explained. The were beginning to explain in their own words rather than just reading off the model labels

They can explain all but 1-2 of the parts and function

They can clearly explain all of the parts and functions

They only needed to look at their model labels 1-2 times when explaining the part/function

They could explain all parts in their own words without relying on the model labels

____/4 x 4

***Most important part! Showing that you understand!
