Part 1: Summer Project

Directions:

For your summer Math assignment, you will be creating a project based on one of three topics you have learned in 6th grade. You will create a song, story or PowerPoint to explain the steps/rules for your specific topic and give example problems. This project is DUE the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Please e-mail me at JVanhave@ with ANY questions regarding this assignment.

Requirements:

Your Project will be graded on the following requirements.

1. The project clearly explains the rules/steps for solving your particular topic.

2. The project contains at LEAST 3 example problems with solutions and explanations.

3. The project contains correct grammar/spelling.

4. The project is neat and creative.

Possible Topics:

Order of Operations

Adding and Subtracting Fractions

Converting Fractions to Decimals

Project Descriptions:

Sing It

Write a song, rap or poem about Math! You can use the tune to a song you know or make up your own! Your song, rap or poem should be at least 3 paragraphs long and should explain the rules for your topic as well as give 3 example problems. Please turn in a typed or hand-written copy of your song. Make sure to tell me what the tune is! You can also turn in a CD of you singing your song or e-mail me the file at Jvanhave@

Story Time

Remember when Ms. Mubasher read the story of Sir. Circumference and Lady Di? Now it’s your turn to incorporate Math into a story of your own! Write a creative story which includes the rules for solving and at least three example problems. Your story can be hand-written or typed and should include pictures as well.

PowerPoint

Pretend that you are teaching a class of students about a Math topic they have never seen before! Make sure you include all the steps/rules of how to solve this type of problem along with example problems. Use your creativity to make the PowerPoint your own.

Directions:

You will answer two Mathematics questions for a communication grade. This means that you must not only work out the problem, but also explain each of your steps in COMPLETE SENTENCES. You may write or type your responses on a separate sheet of paper.
