All timings are local & approximate. Some delay may occur in the event of heavy traffic, traveller fatigue or poor weather in the Channel.

Friday 26th June

1045 – Coach reports. Load baggage.

1100 approx – Coach departs Shrewton

1300 - Arrive Portsmouth Channel Ferry Terminal. Lunch is available in the terminal.

1445 – Brittany Ferries - Portsmouth – Caen (Ouistreham) (clocks advance one hour)

Bureau de Change facilities on board. Dinner on board at own expense.

2130 (local time) - Arrive Caen, drive to hotel..

2200 (approx.) Arrive Hotel – in Caen/Bayeux area.

Saturday 27th June

0830 – Depart hotel for tour of 6th Airborne Division area (order may vary). Campaign briefing.

1000 - Merville Battery – D Day Parachute assault by 9th Bn The Parachute Regiment. Admission included, followed by:

• Ranville War Cemetery – 6th AB Division. Introduction to the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

• Pegasus Bridge – D-Day Glider borne assault on River Orne/Caen canal bridges by D Company, 2nd Bn Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Lunch at own expense in Café Gondrée area – first building to be liberated in France. Opportunity to visit Pegasus Memorial Museum at own expense.

1400 (approx) Drive to SWORD Sector.

1430 SWORD Sector – QUEEN RED Beach

D-Day Landing - Strongpoint COD - 2nd Bn East Yorkshire Regiment, 1st Bn South Lancashire Regiment

1500 approx - The advance inland – The attempt to seize Caen on D-Day – the battle for strongpoints MORRIS & HILLMAN – 1st Bn Suffolk Regiment, 13th/18th Hussars

1630 approx – JUNO Beach – 3rd Canadian Division D Day Courselles-sur-Mer & the Cross of Lorraine

1730 (approx.) – Return to hotel.

1930 - Dinner in hotel.

Sunday 28th June

0900 Depart hotel for GOLD sector. Visit:

• GOLD Beach – 50th Division - D-Day Landing by 6th Bn Green Howards and initial advance inland to Crépon. The story of CSM Stanley Hollis VC.

• Arromanches – Lunch in Arromanches at own expense. Optional visit to D-Day Landings Museum, View offshore remains of Mulberry Harbour

1600 approx – Optional visits at own expense to Bayeux Memorial Museum or the Bayeux Tapestry.

1715 (approx) Bayeux War Cemetery & Memorial. Act of Remembrance.

1800 (approx) Depart for hotel.

1930 Dinner in hotel

Monday 29th June

0800 – Load baggage & check out. Collect packed lunch. Depart Hotel for American sector. Visit:

• Ste Mére Ėglise area – 82 (US) AB Div landings. Admission to Airborne Museum included.

• Pointe du Hoc – US Rangers landing plus (if time permits) German Cemetery.

• OMAHA Beach – See German defences and landing area of US 29th Division. St Laurent US National Cemetery.

1300 approx - Depart for Ouistreham. Shopping opportunity en route if time permits.

1530 Check in for ferry at Ouistreham

1630 – Brittany Ferries – Caen (Ouistreham) - Portsmouth. Meals on ferry at own expense.

2115 (local time) Arrive Portsmouth. Drive to Shrewton.

Additional Information:

• Dress – Please dress comfortably and wear shoes you do not mind getting muddy or dusty. A light shower proof jacket would be wise in case it rains.

• A full 10-year British or EU passport is required for the tour. Holders of British or EU passports do not require a visa.

• If you have not done so already, you must provide proof that you are adequately insured when you join the tour. Please make sure you bring your policy with you. You should also obtain a European Health Insurance card (EHIC). Available from



• I will issue explanatory maps during the tour.

• Bureau de Change/currency exchange facilities are available at Portsmouth and on the ferry. However you will probably get a better rate of exchange if you order your Euros through your bank or the Post Office. You should bring enough money to cover meals on the ferry, your lunches, your bar bill, telephone calls and any personal purchases. The hotel takes major credit cards. You can use English money on the ferry.

• Your guide throughout the tour is Colonel Christopher Newbould CBE, late The Gloucestershire Regiment.

• Your hotel accommodation in France has been reserved for 3 nights to include bed & buffet breakfast plus dinner each night. A packed lunch is provided on Monday. Other lunches are at own expense..
