All American Veterans, Leaders, Supporters and Association Members,

On behalf of the more than 18,000 Paratroopers ready to jump, fight, and win for our Nation, CSM Green and I are honored to share with you the State of the Division for the summer of 2016. This is my final update to you as All American 6; on August 2nd I transition command of the world's greatest Division to Major General Erik Kurilla. The last two years have been unbelievably rewarding as I have had the privilege of serving with the finest Paratroopers in our Army. Thanks to all of you and to all of our Paratroopers I leave knowing that long after I am gone, this Division will continue to serve as America's Guard of Honor, just as it has since August of 1917. Next May, we will celebrate the centennial of the All American Division with All American Week 100. It will be a remarkable event and I hope to return to Fort Bragg for the airborne review, this time as an observer. Ongoing Operations: Win the Fight

As they have over the last 99 years, the All Americans are globally engaged in defense of the United States. As of July 2016, over 380 Paratroopers from the Division are deployed across the world. Over the past six months, the Division has provided Paratroopers in support of missions in 15 different countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, Djibouti, Honduras, and Cuba.

rotation. The squadron will support ground forces with armed aerial reconnaissance and

security. This mission marks the final deployment of the Army's OH-58 Kiowa Warrior

helicopter. Upon its return, 1-17 CAV, the last Kiowa Warrior

squadron in the Army, will transition to AH-64 Apaches.

Operation Freedom's Sentinel. A postal platoon of 35 Paratroopers from the Sustainment Brigade's 18th Human Resources Company is in Afghanistan supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel. The platoon runs several Army Post Offices across the country.

Airborne Operations: Jump, Fight, Win

From February 1st through the end of June, the Division conducted 52 airborne operations with more than 25,000 Paratroopers, more than 80 heavy equipment platforms, and more than 180 container delivery system bundles.

Exercise Swift Response 16: The All Americans Are Stronger with Allies

In June, the Division participated in Swift Response 16, a multinational crisis response exercise which stressed all Brigades and validated the Division's ability to integrate U.S. and Allied Airborne forces quickly to jump, assemble, and accomplish an array of follow-on missions.

On June 6th, the Division headquarters, operating as the Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) headquarters for the exercise, along with the Devil Brigade, was alerted on Fort Bragg and immediately activated the N-hour sequence. The CJTF headquarters coordinated with airborne forces from Poland, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom for an incredibly complex multinational Joint Forcible Entry into Poland.

Approximately 15 hours after alert, the Devil Brigade and the CJTF headquarters were wheels up from Pope Army Airfield, headed over the Atlantic to link up with Allies. In the air, the All Americans refueled aircraft, planned for the post-insertion operation, and rigged parachutes. Less than 25 hours after alert, the Division conducted one of the most complex airborne insertions in the modern history with multiple types of aircraft and parachutes, multiple points

of origin, a variety heavy equipment packages, and three separate drop zones. Thousands of Allied Paratroopers filled the skies of Poland on June 7th, to include more than one thousand All Americans. Once they landed, the real hard work began. Conducting the crisisresponse operation, the Devil Brigade, with Polish partners in the lead, moved to and secured the Torun Bridge while elements of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment crossed.

The Devil Brigade and the Gun Devils then moved to Phase II of the operation, with another complex multinational airborne insertion, this time in Germany. Upon insertion, the Paratroopers conducted a grueling 12-day mission with live fire maneuvers throughout the Hohenfels Training Area in Germany. Their efforts strengthened the battalion's ties with multinational partners and demonstrated the flexibility and capability of the Airborne Field Artillery to our NATO Allies.

This mission was truly a full-team effort for the Division. Once alerted, the Devil Brigade was focused on rapidly getting into Poland and then conducting the follow-on mission. Meanwhile, the Falcon Brigade led the outload effort, with Paratroopers issuing ammunition, loading equipment onto the aircraft, and securing unit areas.

In total, 2,300 U.S. servicemen and women supported SR16 including active, reserve, and national guard Army and Air Force units. An additional 2,700 foreign military servicemen and women from nine countries took part in the 82nd Airborne Division-led training. Exercises like Swift Response 16 highlight the fact that no nation can confront their national security challenges alone.

As it has done since World War II, America's Guard of Honor stands ready to fight alongside our European Allies.

Swift Response not only indicated that commitment, it also showed the world that the 82nd Airborne Division can rapidly send large groups of Paratroopers to any part of the globe to respond to a crisis.
