Daily classroom Operations:

Student agenda, 5 subject binder, sharpened pencils, homework, and textbook (when requested) need to be brought to class daily unless told otherwise. All notes, homework, and handouts will be kept in the binder. Agendas will serve as the hall pass and organizer for student, as well as communication with parents. Attendance will be taken daily. Whenever absent, it is the student's responsibility to request make-up work. Seating is assigned. This seating arrangement is subject to change when necessary.

Evaluation and Assessment:

- Classroom participation is important in all classes and will be factored into grades.

- Home work and projects are an extension of the classroom lessons, and must be turned in at the beginning of the period of the due date. Late work may be penalized as much as 10 points each day. There may be cut-off dates, in these cases, late work will no longer be accepted.

- Quizzes and tests will be announced and posted in advance.

Each nine weeks, numerical grades will be bases on the following scale:

Class Work & Group Work =20% & 15%

Assessments =40%

Homework & Projects =15%

Journal =10%

- The Benchmark tests will be calculated in with grades. The purpose of these tests is

to determine progress and mastery of the Standards of Learning. The 2nd Benchmark will serve as the Mid-term exam, and it will count 20% of the semester's average. The Math SOL Test will be given according to the schedule set by the Virginia Department of Education. Dates will be provided as we approach SOL time.

Classroom Expectations:

-Be Prepared (text, binder, paper, and pencil)

-Be Polite (no talking or walking while others are talking; no commenting out

-Be Considerate (no eating, drinking, candy, sunflower seeds, or chewing gum)

-Be Respectful (no profane, intimidating, or abusive language)

-Be Responsible (Bring personal items: tissue, sanitizer, colored pencils, sharpener, and any other needed items.)

Communication:

We, the student, parent(s), and teacher, working as a team will make 8th grade Math into a great subject together!

-I will be contacting parents bi-weekly during each nine weeks with phone calls, emails, or Engrade reports. I will address progress as well as any behavior concerns.

-I can be reached each day between 12-1 p.m. at (804) 745-3600, or by email: dtucker2@richmondk12.va.us.
