Welcome to 9th Grade World Geography Humanities! I am looking forward to our school year together. In this class we will be learning about the geographical make-up of our planet Earth and how that geography affects people. By the end of this course I hope that we will understand what it means to be an active, responsible, and knowledgeable citizen of the World. The following includes information about what you can expect this year in World Geography.

Rewards for Good Behavior

- Use of Ipods when doing individual work

- Class outside (weather permitting)

- Forgiveness for a late assignment or an extra credit opportunity

Grading

Formative (Homework, Classwork Participation)..... 35%

Summative (Tests, Major Projects, Major Writing Assignments).... 65%

Late Assignments & Make Up Policy

Late assignments – Minor assignments can be turned in up to one week after the due date. A penalty of 1 letter grade will be taken off.

Example: If you hand in your homework a day late and would have received an A, you would get a B.

Major projects and writing assignments will not be accepted beyond their due date.

Interactive Notebooks

Student Interactive Notebooks are the foundation to the work we will be doing in World Geography. Everything the student will need to know will be in the notebook, therefore, it is very important that the student bring the notebook to class every day, as well as, maintain the organization of the notebook daily.. The purpose of the Interactive Notebook is to practice organizational skills necessary for being a successful student and person in life. Details of the structure of the notebook will be given in class.

Materials for Needed for World Geography

-1-2 inch 3 ring binder that will be left in classroom

-Pens or pencils,

-Coloring pencils

-Loose leaf paper in binder

Privileges

Cell Phones-Cell phones are permitted in class, but are considered a privilege. Cell phones can be used to look up information to quests, help with in class research and listen to music while we work. Cell phones should not be used for texting friends or place phone calls. If you have a special situation or a family situation where you are expecting an important call please let me know prior to class starting so I can be more accommodating. If I find you are abusing your phones I will take them away in accordance with school policy.

Food and Drink-Food and drink are allowed in class in limited qualities. Please ensure your drink has a lid of sorts and is not in a glass container. If you eat in class please be sure to pick up your trash, I do NOT want roaches in the room!
