3 LHR advanced within 100 yards of the Turkish trenches and attacked with bayonets to defeat the en on No 2 Redoubt.

Turks surrended No 1 Redoubt under the threat of bayonet charges and No 3 Redoubt is also capturred.

Under hot fire, 8 LHR facing the stiffest opposition capture2350 Germans and Turks for a loss of 3 Officers and 10 Ors KIA.
This battle is a fine example of a slender, but mobile and, above all, resourceful ANZAC column prevailing through enterprise and dash over the dogged and entrenched Turk Its unqualified success is a classical example of the right use of mounted riflemen. In scarcely more than 24 hrs, the Light Horse Men had fought mounted and dismounted 23 miles from their water supply and 50 miles from their railhead and had surprised and annihlated a strongly placed enemy.
Significant actions by 10, 3, 8, 9, and 2 LHRs.

WO2 P. White, AATV, CITATION:
Warrant Officer White re-enlisted in the Regular Army in 1967, having previously served at Morotia and Borneo during WW II. He has since served in a number of units of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps and joined the Australian Army Training Team in Vietnam in March 1967.
On December 28th, 1967, Warrant-Officer White was serving as an adviser to the 2nd Troop, 4th Armoured Cavalry Regiment, Army of the Republic of Vietnam, near Dien Ban in Quang Nam Province. At 1220 hours the Troop was ordered to attack an enemy force which had just ambushed a nearby Vietnamese Ranger Battalion. The troop of armoured personnel carriers with a company of infantry mounted, immediately moved to attack the enemy force, with Warrant Officer White on the lead vehicle. The enemy retaliated with heavy small arms, machine gun and anti-tank fire, killing the Vietnamese commander and another soldier on white’s carrier and disabling the radio.
The infantry were ordered to dismount and attack the enemy who were entrenched in a wooded fortified position less than 100 metres forward of the carriers. The infantry attack was halted by the intense enemy fire of the carriers. The infantry attack was halted by the intense enemy fire and Warrant Officer White, unable to communicate with the remainder of the force and seeing the precarious position the infantry company were in, left the relative safety of his carrier and dashed forward across 50 metres of fire swept ground to assist the infantry company commander who was without an advisor. With complete disregard for his own safety, Warrant Office White placed himself in the forefront of the action and by his example and initiative, played a major role in the final assault on the fortified enemy position which resulted in as least 32 Vietcong soldiers being killed.
Warrant Officer White again distinguished himself on 30th January 1968 during the attack on Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province. Three battalions of Vietcong and North Vietnamese Army troops gained a foothold in the city, including an engineer compound.
The Senior Province Advisor called for volunteers from his advisory staff to reconnoiter the engineer compound at daybreak and Warrant Officer White immediately volunteered to join the small reconnaissance party. After the six-man party gained entry into the compound, they immediately became involved in a fierce fire fight with the enemy, who were being pressed by a Vietnamese relief force approaching the compound. During the three hour battle, the Senior Province Advisor was seriously wounded and Warrant Officer White although wounded himself, repeatedly exposed himself to the enemy so that he could better direct the fire and movement of the relief force of his radio. Warrant Officer White’s outstanding bravery and leadership were a major factor in the ejection of the enemy from the compound.
On a number of other occasions Warrant Officer White has shown outstanding conduct under fire. His leadership and personal bravery have been an inspiration to the Vietnamese troops and advisors with whom he has served and he has brought great credit on himself and on the Australian Army.
29 Dec 1942 C Sqn 2/6th Aust Armd Regt in Unsuccessful Tank Support of Attacking Infantry, Giropa Pt, Buna, New Guinea
The unsuccessful tank support of an infantry attack through the coconut groves of Buna to the beach at Girpa Pt. The tank support was late to the startline, tanks bellied on stumps, were bogged in swampy terrain and fired on friendly troops in close contact. A tragic day for the combined arms attack that should be compared with the successful assault on 1 Jan 1943

Sgt G. M. Kemble, B Sqn 3 Cav Regt, CITATION :
Sergeant Grantly Michael Kemble enlisted in the Australian Regular Army on 14 March 1962, and was allotted to the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. He arrived in South Vietnam to join his Squadron on 11 June 1970.
On 30 December 1970, Sergeant Kemble was commanding a section of APCs in support of a rifle platoon operating in the Phuoc Bu area, when the rifle platoon became heavily engaged with an enemy company group in a bunker system. Sergeant Kemble, who was some distance from the contact area, quickly assessed the situation and without hesitation led his section through thick and close country to the contact area where he came immediately into action. His prompt action forced the enemy to withdraw from the right flank of the contact area and greatly relieved the pressure on the rifle platoon. He then picked up the four badly wounded, moved to the nearest clearing and secured the area so that a helicopter could evacuate the wounded.
His coolness and initiative were conspicuous throughout the whole action, and reflect great credit upon himself, his Squadron and the Royal Australian Armoured Corps.

Sergeant Edmund Sidney Levy enlisted in the Australian Army on 4th May 1961 and was allotted to the Royal Australian Armoured Corps. He joined B Squadron 3rd Cavalry Regiment in South Vietnam on 2nd September 1970.
Early in the morning of 31st December 1970 a large enemy group entered an ambush area south-east of Xuyen Moc. The ambush was initiated by Sergeant Levy at precisely the right moment and for the next three hours he calmly and resolutely directed the fire of his section of three armoured personnel carriers. The fire from his small force was so effective that 21 enemy were killed and subsequent intelligence showed that many more were wounded.
On the evening of 7th January 1971 Sergeant Levy was commanding his section in an ambush position near the Horseshoe feature. When an enemy group approached his position, Sergeant Levy initiated the ambush which resulted in three enemy killed and one prisoner captured.
At 2210 hours on 21st June 1971 Sergeant Levy was again commanding his section in an ambush position in southern Long Khan Province when an enemy group approached from the west. Contact was initiated on Sergeant Levy’s order and continued until 0400 hours the following morning resulting in twelve enemy killed and three prisoners captured.
On all occasions Sergeant Levy’s calmness, resolution and sound judgment enabled his section to inflict heavy casualties in the enemy. He displayed exemplary conduct and leadership of the highest order which were a credit to himself, his Regiment and the Australian Army.
