Million Words or Less Letter About Yourself

Million Words or Less Letter About Yourself!

Mr. González /Fall 2004

Getting to know you…this is the one of the most difficult challenges I face at the beginning of each school year. I would like for you to write a letter to me to introduce yourself. You may write as much or as little as needed, but it must be a million words or less! Feel free to organize your letter of introduction as you like, but here are some tips for organizing your letter:

❑ In the first paragraph introduce yourself. Tell me your full name, your date of birth, if you have brothers or sisters, if you are the oldest, youngest, or in the middle, and if you have any brothers or sisters who have been in my classes before. What schools have you attended? Where have you lived? Consider this a brief biography/history!

❑ In the next paragraph, tell me what you would like to do, write, read, or learn. What do you need help with? Please set five goals for yourself as a learner in our English class and explain what you will do to reach that goal and what I can do as your teacher to assist you in this goal. How do you learn best? Is there anything else I need to know that can help me create a positive learning environment for you?

❑ In the next paragraph, share two things you are good at doing (not necessarily school things) like: drawing, dancing, doing hair, cooking, helping at home, sewing, building things, singing, skating, on the computer, athletics, etc. Also, share a quote that someone positively commented on or praised you about their talent or whatever it is you are good at doing.

❑ In the next paragraph, tell me what was your best year in school... all the way back to nursery school. Remember the names of teachers, friends, and activities that you enjoyed.

❑ In the next paragraph, share one area that they enjoy in school or feel comfortable with in school. How do you feel about English? Please be honest...because I won't fall apart if you really do not like my subject. My goal is help you feel more comfortable in asking questions and learning. Also, tell me what you do feel comfortable with in English OR what might be one strength they have in this subject.

❑ In conclusion, what are your short term and long-term dreams/goals?

Style Guidelines:

❑ Due Friday, September 10, 2004 at the beginning of class.

❑ You will have class time on September 9 to work on your assignment.

❑ Your may write your assignment neatly by hand in black or blue ink, or you may type your letter on the computer. Feel free to be creative!

❑ Please write/print on one side only.
