Objective 9: I can write about my favorite meal.

Make sure to include foods from their main dishes, drinks and desserts. Say that the food doesn’t cost a lot and that it is delicious. Your email must be at least 8 sentences long. After you finish writing your message, check to make sure you have used accurate spelling and punctuation, and that the subject of the sentence and the verb agree. Your teacher will use the rubric below to assess your writing.

Objective 10: I can talk about ordering a meal in a restaurant.

Speaking prompt:

Situation 1

Describe a typical trip to a restaurant. Name three things that you typically order and say that something is delicious and that something is good for your health. Name your restaurant and say where it is located. Say how much your meal usually costs and that you like to eat in that restaurant.

Situation 2

One student will play the role of a customer in a restaurant and one will play the role of waiter. The waiter will ask what the customer would like to order and the customer will request at least 3 items. The waiter will bring the items and the customer will say that one item is delicious, one is too hot or too cold. The waiter will ask if the customer needs anything else and the customer will say that he or she needs something. The waiter will bring the bill and both parties will thank each other.

OBJECTIVE 11: I can talk about Mexican cultures and customs.

For each form of the test you will be required to answer 2 of the following questions based on your knowledge of Spanish culture. Write a short paragraph to answer the question completely.

1. What factors contribute to the problems of overcrowding and pollution in Mexico City?

2. Choose 2 foods that are native to Mexico or the Americas and describe how they have affected eating patterns in other countries.

3. Corn was considered the food of the gods. How is it important in the United States? (Describe at least 3 uses).

5. Compare and contrast the typical dinner in the United States and Mexico. Be sure to have at least 2 similarities and 2 differences.

6. What happened on Cinco de Mayo? Why is it important to Mexicans?

7. Describe what a “merienda” is in Mexico. How does it compare to a similar meal in the United States?

8. In general, what would one typically eat for breakfast in Mexico? How is this similar or different from an American meal?

9. What is a mestizo? Why is the term important for Mexicans?
