Personal Narrative Essay

Eng. 9/Rapert

The word “narrative” means story. Adding the word “personal” to it makes it your story. A narrative focuses on one event or experience that is significant in the writer’s life. Your task is to create a compelling story of that event (either based on an event that occurred in your life or a fictionalized account of a real event). The story must have a clearly detailed setting and a defined, fleshed out character (this may be a first person narrator).

Take just one moment of that event and magnify it using vivid verbs, imagery, and emotions. Put the reader right next to you and make us feel as if we are right there with you (or the narrator). What are you/he/she feeling, seeing, hearing, thinking, etc? The reader should clearly understand the significance of this experience.
