“Song of Myself” Narrative

Walt Whitman celebrated his individuality and uniqueness in his life and poetry with his poem “Song of Myself.” His innovative use of blank verse as well as cataloguing personal memories or experiences led to a new way of appreciating and understand poetry.

• Create a poem in the style of Whitman’s “Song of Myself.”

• Poem should be at least 15 lines and use cataloguing and free verse to celebrate moments in your life that helped shape who you are.

• Write about three different memories that you have of a happy, peaceful time or a time when you were totally unique or a moment you are proud of, or of a person you met who made an impact on your life.

• NO negative memories. Celebrate your life.

• Use blank verse, sensory details, and cataloguing.

• Grammatically correct

• In addition to the poem, include pictures that illustrate key elements in your poem such as setting, imagery, theme, etc.
