A - oil & filter change 1 - rotate tires 2 - in cabin air filter change 3 - transmission oil change If so: 1. Can I just get a non Acura in-cabin filter from a local auto parts store? Last time I changed the in cabin filter but bought an expensive Acura one. This time around, can I save even more money by buying a 3rd party one? 2. I had the torque converter software update about 2-3 months ago and at that time, did a transmission oil change already. Does the on-board computer take this into consideration or not? Not sure I want to spend money to do it again so early. I will do A1 for sure. Any thoughts gang? ? 1. Yes you can use a non-OEM filter. I think I used Fram last time I swapped it out. 2. I wouldn't change the trans fluid. The computer only knows if you reset after the service is done. Do the A1 and then rest the minder and you should be good for a while. ? IMHO, I would replace the transmission fluid/differential every 11.5 years. I would hear a humm at cruising speed and on changing the fluid, no more humm and smoother shifts. Thanks guys! ? Discussion Starter ? #5 ? Feb 21, 2013 ok finally time for an update. Got some new info to share just in case anyone else may be in the same situation. Minder 3: Is not just tranny fluid. For the MDX that has a transfer case, 3 also is a recommendation to change this fluid too. So 3 = tranny fluid and transfer case fluid. Not even sure what a transfer case is until now. Well, I sort of know. Is it the front diff (as service person told me)? Even though I had my tranny fluid changed about 6-8 months ago, I decide to do it again so transfer case and tranny are now "synced" as in the next time 3 comes up again, I know they will both need changing rather than knowing tranny was 6-8 months behind in service. Also, the dealership charged $170 in total before tax for tranny and transfer case. It was $70 less to do just transfer case so I just did both. Also for filter change (Minder 2), it was not just in cabin filter but the engine air filter as well. Has the dealership change engine air filter and I will do the in-cabin one to save some money. Last time, I bought an Acura filter, this time, not sure I want to pay that much again. Also had a weak battery so dealership charged roughly $150 for parts and labor of battery. Seems pretty reasonable to me since calling the local CAA to come and replace a battery will cost even more. Above prices are before taxes and I actually get a 10% discount on parts and labor for being a long time customer. Prices seem ok for the above? Also, one other board member also noticed a Clunking when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. This morning, the clunk was diminished by 90%, let's hope it stays. I have had tranny fluid replaced before so we can rule this out. Either changing out the battery or transfer case fluid resolved (hopefully) this darn clunking from 2nd to 3rd. The sound had always seemed to be a large metal piece clunking so we may be able to rule out the battery as well. Transfer case fluid helped? Feb 22, 2013 ok, now that I know where the transfer case is, the work order says I was charged for differential fluid and ATF fluid. I am guessing diff fluid is what was replaced in the transfer case? ? Transfer case is in the center of the car between the front wheels basically. It uses Hypoid gear oil 75W90 and takes about 1/2 quart from what I've read on other posts. It actually transfers power to the rear differential. A driveshaft connects the front transfer case to the rear differential. It sits in the center of the car between the rear wheels. It uses (2011 and newer MDX) DPSF fluid, about 3 quarts. I believe the older MDXs used transmission fluid or a similar type fluid. Looking on your receipt, you should see which fluid and how much was used to refill the case. Just FYI, as silly as it sounds, a lot of dealerships only change the transmission fluid when they see code 3 although it also calls for transfer case fluid. It's like they have no idea what they are doing. When my code 3 came up I called 3 dealerships for quotes and they all claimed the transfer case fluid was integrated with the transmission fluid. That if I change the tranny fluid, that would take care of the transfer case as well. I told them all to go back and read the manual and retrain their staff and ended up doing it myself. ? My dealership has a poster of all reminder codes and it clearly shows different prices for different Minder 3's, with and without transfer case vehicles. Based on reading this and other threads, I was under the impression that 2 is for the in-cabin air filter. I have done this before, no problem. When I got to the dealership, I was told the engine filter is part of 2. I figured, I have not done this before and needed to tell them on the spot so figured if it had to do with the engine, for them to do it. I get 10% off anyways on the bill. I have upgraded an old vehicle to an HKS filter mushroom before so can probably replace the MDX one but without knowing before hand, I asked them to do it.
