3048000COLLEGE OF BUSINESS FACULTY / STAFF MEETING MINUTESFRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 1:30 PMGreg Frazier, Sr. Associate Dean, opened the meeting at 1:31 PM via Teams. DAN MOORE, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR ACADEMIC INTEGRITYMr. Moore stated that there is an overall increase in academic integrity cases University-wide which his office oversees; however, there is a decrease in cases in the CoB. He stated that there are three main ways that students cheat: contract cheating (paying someone to take the test), test banks (most exams are available online), and GroupMe. Respondus has helped with some cases, but Mr. Moore asked that all faculty be vigilant and report any instances or suspected instances to his office. He reiterated that currently it is up to individual faculty members to determine what, if any, grade penalty will occur for confirmed cheating. Dean Dombroski and Dr. Frazier thanked Dan Moore and his office for their effort regarding Mana 4322. Mr. Moore concluded his segment with advising faculty to watch 3 to 5 minutes into the online test segment or scan the thumbnails to detect suspect eye movement. He provided his contact information: dtmoore@uta.edu or 817-272-2354.NEW TENURE-TRACK FACULTYDr. Hila Fogel-Yaari, ACCTDr. Yuan Ji, ACCTDr. Rouchen Liao, ISOMDr. David Arena, MANADr. Pyayt Oo, MANADr. Owen Parker, MANANEW NON-TENURE-TRACK FACULTYDr. Sajib Datta, ISOMDr. Martin Monroe, MANADr. Tatia Jacobson Jordan, MARKDr. William (Bill) Venable, MARKNEW STAFFJoseph Babcock, EMBA DirectorLeslie Loignon, GBS Administrative AssistantJustin Smith, ARP DirectorBrianna Gibbs, UG AdvisorCelinda Lopez, UG AdvisorNEW ROLES / PROMOTIONSDr. Myrtle Bell, Associate Dean of Diversity, Racial Equity, and InclusionScott Elbert, GBS DirectorJennifer Hill, Administrative Assistant IIDr. George Benson, MANA (Full Professor)Dr. Salil Sarkar, FINA (Full Professor)Dr. Mahmut Yasar, ECON (Full Professor)Dr. Myrtle Bell – Thomas McMahon Professor in Business Ethics – Endowed ProfessorshipTEACHING AWARDSDr. Stephanie Rasmussen received the 2020 UT Systems Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award.OTHER GOOD NEWSThe following were granted faculty development leave for 20-21:Grace Hao, FINADavid Rakowski, FINAJennifer Zhang, ISOMDr. Edmund Prater will begin a one-year leave as a Jefferson Science Fellow. The following had elite journal acceptances for 19-20:Wendy Casper – Journal of Applied PsychologyKay-Yut Chen – Management ScienceAriane Froidevaux – Journal of Applied PsychologyRadha Mahapatra & Sridhar Nerur – Journal of the Association of Information SystemsAlper Nakkas – Prod. & Oper. An electronic vote will be sent out after the meeting to all tenure and tenure-track faculty.DIVERSITY, RACIAL EQUITY, AND INCLUSIONDr. Myrtle Bell provided the attendees with an update on the DREI Council which is nearly formulated. Response has been overwhelming. Sub-committees will be established with those who have expressed interest but who may not be on the main Council. She has also reached out and connected with other UTA departments on their initiatives. Dr. Bell currently has 7 community/corporate leaders who have agreed to serve as Diversity Partners. She is working with Jillian McFarland and Jordan Mulkey to update the CoB website to include the DREI information. She is also establishing a DREI Research and Education Group. RESEARCH UPDATESDr. Wendy Casper shared that research grants are available in both fall and spring and that the fall call for proposals was released on 9.15.20. These grants are up to 5k to cover direct research expenses. Proposals are due 10.15.20.Dr. Casper also stated that the journal lists have had some changes but are currently with department chairs for further consideration. Please contact your department chair for the status. She also stated that a faculty committee is working on developing a teaching load policy.PhD PROGRAMDr. Casper provided that there are currently 18 new PhD students accepted to the CoB for fall semester with 3 more accepted for spring semester. Effective Spring 2021, 78 total PhD students across 6 programs will be at the CoB. Dr. Casper is stepping down as the PhD Director and Dr. Terry Skantz will be taking over in Spring 2021 while Dr. Bin Srinidhi will be the new Accounting MFC.TIER 1 RESEARCH PUSHDr. Casper stated that all Tier 1 metrics have been met for 2 years and that by next fall, UTA should earn the Tier 1 status for the state of Texas. CoB spent 172k in research funds to help with the spending requirement from the state (45M required and UTA spent 50M); as well as UTA graduating 228 PhDs with 200 required. FACULTY ISSUESDr. Fernando Jaramillo shared the background of the new EMBA Director Joseph Babcock and thanked Randy Napier, William Seeger, and Roger Meiners for their past stewardship. He reminded everyone that evaluation of online courses is going on now and Dr. Christy Spivey and Dr. Tatia Jordan are heading a task force to establish ways to improve future delivery of courses online. Dr. Larry Chonko will be the chair for a new task force on ethical guidelines that will include representatives from each department. AACSB ACCREDITATIONDr. Frazier reminded everyone of the importance of the upcoming AACSB accreditation review (March 1, 2021) which will involve all parties: faculty, staff, CoB administration, and central administration. Faculty input into Digital Measures is crucial for the development of required tables in the self-study report which is due 12.1.20. The 5-year review period does include 19-20. DEAN’S COMMENTSThe Dean provided enrollment numbers for review by attendees (see power point). No budgets cuts have been approved to date and any budget shortfalls were covered by reserves or other funding. The deans were asked to submit a transformation plan and a budget plan with a 5% cut contingency. For the budget, the Dean said that most cuts would be through attrition if it happens. Regarding the transformation plan, the Dean suggested that in the future, the increased modalities that the pandemic forced into use, should be considered the norm. Online platforms can be much more meaningful for students and free up valuable time for faculty for increased research. Providing an update on Covid-19 cases, the Dean stated that currently there are only 20 active cases which is particularly good. The Dean thanked Myrtle Bell and the CoB in general for their willingness to serve on DREI initiatives so that the CoB can become a leader not only at the university level, but also community wide. Dean Dombroski discussed the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Innovation (CEEI) which will be a university led program that the CoB and Engineering will take the lead on. There is great collaboration with the City of Arlington and the Arlington Chamber for this Center which might be housed in a free space at the corner of UTA and Center Blvd. The Dean shared that for the budget the following are areas of concern, not worry: lower enrollment, potential state budget cuts, lower EMBA enrollment (the right team is in place to restructure and remarket this program which should help), international impact of Covid and politics on our international student enrollment (out of our control, but need to be prepared to deal with the consequences), and impact to donors (not sure how this will be effected as to general economic downturn). Dean Dombroski concluded the meeting with reminding everyone that the spring semester will be like fall with the increased modalities, that faculty hiring will be delayed and considered more fully for diversity hires with a focus on endowed professors/chairs, and that the journal list is not his decision. The Dean thanked Dr. Frazier for his lead during the AACSB accreditation process and congratulated Dr. Rasmussen and BGS for achieving Highest Honors status again this year.Dr. Frazier thanked everyone for attending. The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 PM. ................
