24 hour Armed Forces Emergency Services and Disaster Services

The Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross provides 24-hour emergency assistance for disaster victims and communications for military personnel and their families. Information and referrals are also provided to customers who need other types of assistance, not necessarily offered by the Red Cross. Health and safety classes are provided to businesses and the public.

Armed Forces Emergency Services:

This program operates 24 hours a day to assist military personnel and their dependents, veterans and their families and families of deceased veterans. There are no fees. Persons may apply by telephone. On initial contact, a case history is developed; this information is required for effective service and follow-up. Services include communication, financial assistance, counseling and guidance.

Disaster Services:

This program operates 24 hours a day and meets emergency needs of victims immediately after a disaster has struck or in advance of a potential disaster when people must be evacuated. This help includes food, clothing, shelter and other basic elements for comfort and survival. All disaster assistance from the Red Cross is an outright gift. Disaster preparedness education is available for community groups and schools.

Health and Safety; Youth Education:

This program provides classes in babysitting, parenting, first aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillators, and water safety. Programs can be tailored to meet the needs of specific groups. The Red Cross offers a wide variety of training to area youth – teaching them to lead healthier, safer livers. Fees vary – most youth classes are free, however, some courses have fees due to material and training expenses.

International Services:

Tracing services for people separated by war or disaster, international health and welfare inquires, and information and referrals. Messages between prisoners of war and their families begin at a local level and are carried into prison camps by delegates from the International Committee of the Red Cross. Presentations are also available on topics on International Humanitarian Law, the Geneva Conventions, and the History of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Services provided for Fulton, Marshall, Mason, Peoria, Piatt, Schuyler, Stark, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties.
