REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

MCINTOSH SCHOOL DISTRICT

Wednesday, April 9, 2014 @ 7:00pm MT

Board President, Chris Bailey, called the meeting of the Board of Education for the McIntosh School District #15-1, McIntosh, South Dakota to order with the following members present: Chris Bailey, Marcia Schell, William Chase, John Powell, Jr and Robert Schuh. Also present: Superintendent –Dick Schaffan, Business Manager-Kathy Sieck-Chase, Athletic Director- Heather Katus, Deb Trullinger, Pat Hoff, Narcel Clark, Molly Tenbroek, Heather Beck, Terrin Courtney, Rebekah Pett, Dale and Teri Baumeister, Shar Seiler, Jess Jung, Linda Hengel, Danielle Maxon, and Charlotte White Mountain.

All motions carried unanimously unless otherwise stated.

President Bailey asked for additions to the agenda.

The following additions were made:

Action # 13-14-100

Motion by John Powell, second by Marcia Schell, to approve consent agenda-agenda with additions, March 2014 Board Minutes, March 2014 Financials, April 2014 Payroll and Bills.

The Board heard from Danielle Maxon concerning a discipline issue on the bus. The Board also heard from the bus driver, Jess Jung. No action taken.

Elementary Update-Dick Schaffan. Common Core Summit Team will make their presentation at the May Board meeting. NW Area Spelling Bee will be April 16, 2014 at Dupree. Preschool visitation will be April 28th. Free tickets for the Shrine Circus in Bismarck were given to students in Pre-K-6th, sponsored by Prairie Knight Casino. Elementary Music Contest will be in McIntosh, Saturday April 26th. Carole Schaffan is currently attending Student Learning Objective Training for Administrators in Rapid City.

Athletic Director Report- Heather Katus. Track season is underway, there are 25 students participating in Junior High Track and 11 students participating in High School track. First track meet is Thursday, April 10th in Mobridge, SD. Lemmon Athletic Banquet is April 29th and McIntosh Awards Day is May 6, 2014 starting at 12 pm (noon) MT.

Motion by Robert Schuh, second by William Chase, to approve the resolution authorizing membership of McIntosh High School in the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

High School Report-Terrin Courtney

Math Contest will be in Aberdeen on April 17, 2013. Academic Olympics will be April 23, 2014 at Faith, SD. The McIntosh School Play will be Friday April 11, 2014. The McIntosh ProStart team took 2nd place in Management and 4th place in Culinary. LaKisha Jordan received ProStart Educator of Excellent Award and will be going to Chicago for the National Convention. The McIntosh School Board congratulates the ProStart Team and LaKisha Jordan on an outstanding job.

NWAS-Robert Schuh. NWAS new director is Quinn Lenk. $800,000 CTA grant will be used for new mobile units and updates to the older units.

Motion by John Powell Jr, second by William Chase to transfer $1481.70 from Impact Aid Fund to Food Service for the cost of seconds for the month of March 2014.

Motion by Robert Schuh, second by Marcia Schell to purchase the Fixed Asset Module for the Business Office.

Motion by William Chase second by John Powell to pay certified long term substitute teachers $125/day.

Motion by Marcia Schell, second by William Chase to approve the Combined Election Agreement with Corson County.

Superintendent Report-Dick Schaffan. There are 9 applicants for the Librarian position, interviews will continue. Discussion held on the Bus. It was decided to have Jess Jung and Gary Merkel tow the bus home from Bismarck.

Motion by Marcia Schell, second by William Chase, to enter into executive session at 7:49 pm MT per SDCL 1-25-2-1 and 2.

Declared out at 9:58 pm MT.

No action taken.

President Bailey adjourned the meeting at 9:59 pm MT.

Finance Committee meet at 6pm MT. Attendees were: Chris Bailey, Robert Schuh, Molly Tenbroek, Kathy Sieck-Chase and Dick Schaffan. Financial Statements for March 2014, Bills and Payroll for April 2014 were reviewed and discussed. Budget issues were also addressed.

Next meeting May 14, 2014 at 7pm MT.
