January 29, 2020 Library Board Meeting6:30 PM-Bowdle Public Library3043 West MainChad Holsworth called the meeting to order at 6:33 PM with the following Board Members present: Marjean Gab, Ann Thomsen, Margy Bobby, Michelle Kessel, City Council Representative Gary Frankfurth, and Librarian Lydia Schnaible. Not present: Librarian Cate Dominicak.Motion to approve the November minutes by Marjean and seconded by Margy. All present voted yes. Motion carried.Financial Report: Financial report for the months of November and December were available from City F/O and reviewed. Motion by Michelle and seconded by Ann to accept financial reports. All present voted yes. Motion carried. Old Business:Lydia reported that 80 people came into the library for Elf Night in December.Lydia is still waiting to hear back from the State Library about Scan Day.Lydia is still scanning the books into the computer. There is no date available when all the books will be done.MileUp program is on hold until Lydia hears back from the State Library.The library’s budget has been readjusted to reflect just the library without the museum. Lydia will give Janet the list from Rev. Bieber’s family of items they want back if the museum would ever close.Lydia has booked Absolute Science from Iowa for Summer Reading. The price is $400. Lydia will contact someone from the Legion Hall about having the event there. The date is June 18th at 6:30 PM.New Business:Geffdog designed a new READ sign for outside the library. Lydia presented the proposed design to the Board. The price for the full-length sign is $312. A motion to purchase the sign made by Margy and seconded by Michelle. All preset voted yes. Motion carried.Lydia will attend Library Legislative Day at the Capitol building February 13th to receive the library’s accreditation.Lydia presented the revised Policy Manual. The only thing that needs to be changed is a new mission statement. Lydia will be attending Train the Trainer workshop in Pierre February 14th. This workshop is for all the summer reading workshop leaders. She will spend the night in Pierre since she will be in Pierre for Legislative Day the day before. The grant money for leading the workshop will cover the hotel cost.JumpStart (Summer Reading) will have a workshop in Bowdle March 13th. Lydia will be leading the workshop.The library’s Easter Egg hunt will be Saturday, April 4th. Lydia will contact the healthcare facility to coordinate a time and building availability. Lydia will ask for donations of candy for the hunt.Lydia will be working on the Annual Survey the next couple of months. Library Institute will be May 31-June 5 at Northern in Aberdeen.Lydia would like to install Deep Freeze onto the computers to help with viruses caused by games. Many other libraries use this program. Marjean will ask Rex to look at the program.Diamond Painting will be held at the library February 24th.April 18, 2021 is the library’s 50th anniversary. Lydia asked the board to think about special things the library could do to celebrate.Lydia expressed the need for a fill in person that could work if Cate and Lydia were not available. Margy and Marjean volunteered to help if needed.Before the March meeting, Lydia will contact the board about picking up evaluations so they will be ready for the May City Council meeting. The next library meeting will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 6:30 PM. Motion made by Margy and seconded by Michelle to adjourn at 7:06 PM.Lydia Schnaible, Library Director ................
