“Friends of SDSBVI” Award

Over the years the South Dakota School for the Blind & Visually Impaired has recognized employers, volunteers, parents, legislators, and organizations as "Friends of SDSBVI”. The School recently selected Don and Carmen Meyer as “Friends of SDSBVI”. The relationship between the Meyers and the School began when they took a student to church with them on Sundays. From this link, a special bond also formed with the members of the NSU Basketball Team. Each spring the team sponsors a pizza party for the students and this fall a "Welcome Back" picnic will be held. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the Meyers, the students have developed special connections to the players and coaches.

Northern State University’s head men’s basketball coach Don Meyer and his wife, Carmen, were recently selected as recipients for the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired’s “Friends of SDSBVI,” award.

In the past, this award has recognized employers, volunteers, parents, legislators and organizations. The bond between the SDSBVI began to grow when the Meyer’s started to take a child to church with them on Sundays. Soon, the bond grew to that with members of the NSU men’s basketball team. Each spring the team sponsors a pizza party for the students. The Meyer’s kindness has given the students the opportunity to develop special bonds between the players and coaches at NSU.
