REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

MCINTOSH SCHOOL DISTRICT

Monday, February 10, 2014 @ 5:00pm MT

Board President, Chris Bailey, called the meeting of the Board of Education for the McIntosh School District #15-1, McIntosh, South Dakota to order with the following members present: Chris Bailey, Marcia Schell, William Chase, John Powell, Jr and Robert Schuh. Also present: Superintendent –Dick Schaffan, Principal- Carole Schaffan, Business Manager-Kathy Sieck-Chase, Athletic Director- Heather Katus, Marie Nehl, Deb Trullinger, Connie Klaudt, Pat Hoff, Narcel Clark, Molly Tenbroek, and Becky Siroshton.

Pledge of Allegiance

All motions carried unanimously unless otherwise stated.

President Bailey asked for additions to the agenda.

The following additions were made:

Action #13-14-83

Motion by Robert Schuh, second by William Chase, to approve consent agenda (Agenda with additions, January 2014 board minutes, January 2014 financial statement, February 2014 bills and payroll).

Elementary Update-Carole Schaffan. Scripps Spelling Bee in Rapid City on February 15th. Zach Stout will be attending regional Geo Bee. Quarter Drop fundraiser for Leukemia sponsored by McIntosh National Honor Society. Moreau-Grand will present “The Story Behind the Switch”. February is reading month-”Get in the Olympic Game…Read”. Standards Based Report Card Training February 26th and May 21st. Common Core Summit, March 6th in Rapid City. Charlotte Danielson Evaluations and Common Core time requirements for teachers were discussed.

Athletic Director Report- Heather Katus. Parent’s night for BBB is February 10th. Parent’s night for GBB is February 15th. GBB Districts are February 24th, 27th, & 28th in Mobridge, SD. Regional GBB is March 4th. BBB Districts are March 3rd, 6th and 7th in Mobridge; SD. Regional BBB is March 11th. Regional Wrestling Tourney is February 22nd and the State Wresting Tourney is February 28th- March 1st in Aberdeen, SD. The McIntosh School Board wishes the GBB and BBB teams “best of luck” at districts and regional tournaments. The McIntosh School Board sends “good luck wishes” to Garret Clark for wrestling regional’s and state tournament. The McIntosh School Board would also like to congratulate Garrett Clark for being selected All-State, First Team, Football Team.

High School Report-Marie Nehl

There will be 15 high school students attending the SMARTS Challenge at Mobridge-Pollock High School February 19th. Fourteen music students will be attending Music Contest on February 12th in Mobridge. The Physical Science class hosted a debate on Nuclear Power. LaKisha Jordan has been nominated for 2014 ProStart Educator Excellence Award. The McIntosh School Board wishes to congratulate LaKisha Jordan on her nomination.

Action #13-14-84

Motion by William Chase, second by Robert Schuh to recognize the McIntosh Teachers Assn. as a negotiating body.

NWAS-Robert Schuh.

NWAS has been awarded a CTE Grant from the State of SD. The Grant will be used for replacing four mobile units and repairing four mobile units. All assessment have been paid by member schools. All member schools will be receiving a refund of $14.82/student. ASBSD is conducting a search for new NW Area director.

Action #13-14-85

Motion by John Powell Jr, second by Maria Schell to transfer $200,000.00 from Impact Aid Fund to General Fund, and to transfer $10,000.00 from Impact Aid Fund to Food Service Fund.

Action #13-14-86

Motion by William Chase and second by John Powell Jr; to charge $1.65 for second entrée and .30/carton of milk. The second entrée and additional milk will be tracked by McIntosh School staff and reimbursed through Impact Aid Fund. There will be no cost to the students.

Superintendent Report-Dick Schaffan. Mr. Schaffan explained a handout on all current legislative bills affecting school districts. Teacher Tech Survey was results were handed out. Teachers have been asked to start the day with the Pledge of Allegiance. Four applications have been received for long term sub. The proposed calendar was reviewed. The Board will start reviewing the McIntosh School Policy Manual. The Spanish position was discussed with Superintendent Schaffan.

Action #13-14-87

Motion by John Powell Jr, second by William Chase, to enter into executive session per SDCL 1-25-2-1 and SDCL 1-25-2-4 for personnel and negotiations at 5:45 pm MT

Declared out of executive session at 6:33 pm MT

President Bailey left.

No action taken.

Vice-President Schell adjourned the meeting at 6:34 pm MT.
