QUINSY

Quinsy, peritonsillar abscess and suppurative tonsillitis are terms applied to an abscess in and about the tonsil secondary to acute or chronic tonsillitis. There is marked pain in the throat, particularly on swallowing, swelling of the tonsils and palate, and enlargement of the glands of the neck. Spontaneous or surgical opening of the abscess with drainage of the pus usually brings quick relief.
