SCHOOL AND THE COMMUNITY

Paisley IB Magnet School is located in the heart of Forsyth County and has proudly served the community of Winston-Salem since its opening in 1959. Students at our school have a wide range of academic choices and there is a niche for every talent and interest. We strongly believe in the education of the whole child and encourage participation in extracurricular activities.

Among our strengths are high academic tradition, a diverse student population and strong parental support. Paisley has been recognized for contributions made in a variety of academic endeavors as well as for the continued contribution to public education and cultural life on an international level.

COMMUNITY & SERVICE

All International Baccalaureate students are required to complete a minimum of 30+ hours of community and service each year in order to be eligible for IB certification.

PERSONAL PROJECT

The personal project is a significant body of work produced from the 4th quarter of the 9th grade year and completed the 1st semester of the 10th grade year. It is a product of the student’s own initiative and should reflect the learning experiences of the student in the Middle Years Program. All students participating in the Middle Years Program must complete a Personal Project for International Baccalaureate certification.

ASSESSMENT and the IB-MYP – In line with its general philosophy, all the work of MYP students is internally assessed by teachers. The MYP identifies a set of objectives for each subject group, which are directly related to the assessment criteria of that particular subject group. Assessments become part of the student’s high school record and is an indicator of preparedness for the IB Diploma Programme offered in grades 11-12 at Parkland High School.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES – Youth &Government, Chess Club, Art Club, Crosby Scholars, Model UN, Science Olympiad, Student Government, BETA Club, Newspaper and Yearbook. Other activities will be considered, contingent upon student interest. Students are encouraged to participate in all activities at Parkland IB Magnet High School or their residential high school.
