Orange County Public Schools2190754762557721500International Baccalaureate Diploma ProgrammeHigh School Admission Policy The International Baccalaureate Magnets include a two-year, rigorous course of study to prepare students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program during their junior and senior years. The program offers extensive study in language arts, history, liberal arts, mathematics and science and stresses the development of communication and analytical skills. The IB program is recognized internationally by colleges and universities. Students throughout the Orange County School District may apply for this program. Participating students enter the program as freshmen and a limited number may enter as sophomores. Specific Eligibility Requirements: Applicant’s schedule must be able to accommodate magnet classes; eligibility will include the previous two school year's GPAs. Zoned StudentsAccording to OCPS policy students who are zoned to your school who want to participate within IB must still apply via the OCPS Magnet application. It should be noted that with an incoming group of freshmen there is an attempt to reach out to share information about the IB program so they can formally apply. During freshmen and sophomore years students are engaged in a CCHS Pre-IB curriculum that is structured to prepare students for the rigors of the IB Diploma Programme. During these years we also being introducing the Learner Profile, the Approaches to Teaching and Learning, and students begin their State of Florida scholarship required community service work as a precursor to CAS. OCPS Magnet OCPS Magnets have been established at high schools to provide an opportunity for students to engage in intensive study in specific areas. Magnets offer the opportunity for students to discover their talents and explore their interests while focusing on academic rigor. OCPS magnets reflect the diversity of the district and are designated to attract students from across the district. High school magnet programs provide unique personalized learning communities. EligibilityStudents must reside in Orange County, Florida, and be eligible to apply in order to begin the magnet application process.High School Eligibility, Selection, and Admission: Eligible applicants for high school programs will be considered for placement as follows: Applicants may be required to meet the comprehensive assessment state and/or District test(s) standards to establish on-grade-level abilities and determine application eligibility.The GPA academic ranking criteria may encompass a total of the previous two (2) years’ unweighted GPA. Certain high school courses taken during the middle school years may be given priority consideration. LotteryFor those programs whose number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available, a computerized lottery will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020. All lotteries will be held in the Board Room at the Ronald Blocker Educational Leadership Center, 445 W. Amelia Street, Orlando, Florida 32801.For high school applicants, 60% of the available seats will be assigned by a computerized GPA ranking system and 40% of the available seats will be assigned randomly via lottery.NotificationEligible students who submit applications by the deadline of February 15, 2020, will be notified of their status via email sent to the parent email address listed on the application. This email is considered the official notice of a magnet program offer or wait pool status. Students who are offered seats in programs must register at the school during the registration dates listed in the notification email.Eligible students who are not offered a seat in the first lottery will be placed in a wait pool. A second lottery, if program seats become available, will be held on April 2, 2020.Eligible students who are not offered a seat in the first or second lottery will be sent their waitlist number via the parent email address listed on the application. If magnet program seats become available, students will be notified via email sent to the parent email address listed on the application.If you do not receive an email by March 4, 2020, please email magnetoffice@, and include your student’s name, student ID number, and the program(s) for which you have applied.SiblingsSchool Choice Services may give a sibling preference to the elementary siblings of older elementary students already admitted and attending an elementary magnet school or magnet program and who will be returning to the same magnet school or magnet program in the year for which application is being made. Siblings must meet magnet program requirements.For purposes of this preference, siblings are brothers and sisters, step-brothers and step-sisters, or half-brothers and half-sisters living at the same address.To be eligible for this preference, the sibling must meet any academic or related criteria for this next level and must submit an application per the application requirements.Consideration for sibling preference is given to eligible applicants on a space-available basis and must be indicated on the application.Failure to apply by the deadline or indicate sibling preference on the application will result in denial of the sibling preference for the younger sibling.TransportationTransportation is not provided to high school magnet programs.Transportation is provided to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme at the middle schools, but transportation is not provided to the other middle school programs. If a student is enrolled in a magnet program at his or her zoned school, the student will be eligible for transportation according to district policy.The policy is presented to stakeholders annually for review and may be revised upon request.
