The University of Florida College of Dentistry is working hard to enhance the quality of Continuing Dental Education here at home and abroad. Our flagship program in this effort is the 25-month Comprehensive Dentistry Program. This two year AGD Mastership Track Preparation Course has been offered successfully for 40 years and over 400 dentists have completed the program.

As exciting as this exemplary program is, however, it is you, the dental professional, who drives our mission to achieve excellence in the art and science of dentistry. You, as a principle-based, value-driven dental professional, are the key to forging a committed dental community.

Our job, then, as your partner in professional development and life-long learning is to provide a quality venue for this committed dental community to come together. COURSE DESCRIPTION: For over 40 years, the University of Florida has provided a unique program for dentists seeking an opportunity to Earn 600 credits applicable toward a Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. In fact, the University of Florida offers the only MasterTrack program that allows you to complete all your Mastership requirements in 25 months.

? Interact with excellent instructors specializing in different fields; with evidence-based, research supported insights into the latest advancements in the profession

? Develop camaraderie with national and international practitioners ? Compile a body of reference material for practical, immediate use in your practice come Monday morning ? In short, this two-year postgraduate course in comprehensive dentistry is designed to provide the general practitioner with an organized and structured educational program of dental sciences in a format that has something to offer everyone. Classes meet one weekend per month on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (with breakfast included all three days and lunch on Friday & Saturday), and consist of lectures, discussion, in-office projects, and intensive hands-on participation utilizing the College of Dentistry's state-of-the-art Simulation Lab.

The course curriculum parallels the requirements for Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry. A certificate of completion will be awarded to each candidate meeting all requirements of the following curriculum:

GENERAL INFORMATION

J. Hillis Miller Health Center The J. Hillis Miller Health Center at the University of Florida in Gainesville is a modern complex of institutions advancing human health and educating tomorrow's leaders in the health professions.

The Health Center was developed to accommodate the space needs of the College of Dentistry as well as to provide space for the other colleges and the hospital. The College of Dentistry includes the most modern teaching laboratories, lecture areas and a modern comprehensive library. The educational and research programs of the colleges are integrated with the programs of the Gainesville VA Medical Center.

The academic programs of the Health Center prepare students, interns, residents, and graduates in the health professions to understand the team involvement in health care, which has proven to contribute more effectively to patient's wellbeing.

The J. Hillis Miller Health Center, while committed to the preparation of health care professionals, the care of the sick, and the discovery of new health care science is also committed to community service. The colleges engage in community programs that seek innovative approaches to health care delivery and provide instructional continuing education to practitioners.

The College of Dentistry

The College of Dentistry, the first in the state of Florida, admitted its first 24 students in the fall of 1972. The dental building was completed in the spring of 1975. It includes dental outpatient clinics, postgraduate specialty clinics, seminar rooms, simulation lab, as well as teaching and research laboratories.

The College of Dentistry programs are both innovative and state of the art. They reflect the creativity and professional talents of the faculty who are committed to educational processes which are relevant to society's needs.

The primary objective of the College of Dentistry is to develop graduates oriented to the biological sciences; sensitivity to the needs of others; skillful in all preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; and appreciative of new knowledge through research activities.

The Florida Academy of General Dentistry

The Florida Academy of General Dentistry is a constituent of the Academy of General Dentistry. Their goals, like those of the national academy are fourfold: to promote quality continuing dental education for general practitioners; to maintain an accrediting agency for continuing dental education courses; to provide recognition for practitioners having completed rigorous continuing education courses; and finally to assist in improving the dental health of the nation through its educational and legislative efforts.

Membership in the Florida Academy is voluntary and participation in the Florida Academy activities greatly helps to serve the organizational objectives as well as legislative efforts that have impact on the dental care provided in the state.

ADMISSION INFORMATION Requirements For Enrollment The College of Dentistry reserves the right to accept only qualified applicants for this postdoctoral CE program. Each prospective candidate must submit a formal application. Candidates must be currently practicing dentistry or hold a teaching appointment, since some of the courses will require patient care. If a candidate is absent from one or more subcourses in a major course he/she may take the subcourse the next time it is offered without penalty and at the current fee rate at time of attendance. The University of Florida and the Academy of General Dentistry require that credit be awarded only for those hours in attendance or assignments completed. If a candidate has completed only a part of a major course he/she will have a period of three years to complete the component subject area. After that time the entire major course must be retaken and full fees paid. All course work is presented in English only.

Application And Fees

Each Candidate must submit a formal application to the College of Dentistry for acceptance into the program. That application must be approved by the Comprehensive Dentistry Director before the candidate is permitted to enroll in the Comprehensive Dentistry Program.

The tuition for the two-year Comprehensive Dentistry Program (600 contact hours) is $28,475. Candidates are required to furnish some instruments and supplies for some of the classes.

The breakdown of tuition cost is approximately $47.45 per clock hour.

Payment of fees may be handled in one of two ways. The full tuition may be paid in advance, or a non-refundable initial deposit of $2,500.00 is due upon acceptance of the application, followed by twenty-five interest-free consecutive monthly payments of $1,039.00 each. Participants who have completed the EPM program are eligible for a $500.00 discount off of the deposit.

Student Academic Regulations

Withdrawal From And Reentry Into Comprehensive Dentistry Certificate Program

Registered participants may request a break in the program and be reinstated within three years without loss of accumulated credit provided that all fees are paid and the student is reregistered with the Comprehensive Dentistry Program. Fees per weekend session will be assessed at current rate at time of re- entry.

Graduation

Postdoctoral students completing the prescribed course of study, upon recommendation of the program director, will be granted a Certificate of Completion of the Comprehensive Dentistry Program by the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

INDIVIDUAL COURSES PRESENTED IN THE COMPREHENSIVE DENTISTRY PROGRAM

Anesthesia/Pain Management/Sedation/Pharmacology

12 Hours

This course is designed to update the practitioner in pharmacology issues concerning medications that are commonly used in the practice of dentistry and also with medications that patients may be taking, as prescribed by their physicians, that may affect the planned dental treatment.

Basic Science

12 Hours

The curriculum is divided among three classes and the topics include dental biomaterials, strep mutans replacement therapy and probiotics, and the basic science aspects of Oral Pathology.

Endodontics

46 Hours

This course is divided into non-surgical (level I) and Surgical (Level II) Endodontic Procedures. Level I will emphasize most all aspects of non-surgical endodontic care, including diagnosis and treatment planning, access preparation, working length determination, irrigation, rotary cleaning and shaping and thermoplastic obturation. Level II will cover endodontic surgery, removal of canal obstructions, and dental trauma management.

Electives 78 Hours

Elective hours will be given for our courses covering dental photography, practice management and pharmacology.

Esthetics

46 Hours

Esthetic dentistry is presented in its many faceted areas from simple operative dentistry through complex prosthodontic and orthodontic cases. There will be a review of all ceramic restorations and esthetic implant restorations. The principle concepts of esthetic restorative procedures will be highlighted throughout the course.

Implants

46 Hours

This course will cover the use, selection, and alternatives in implant dentistry. The implant template design will be stressed. Discussions and cases will be presented for both partially and completely edentulous patients. Types of complete denture support systems will be discussed and presented. The rationale for immediate placement and load techniques will be scientifically discussed. Impressions and laboratory techniques and requirements will be covered.

Operative Dentistry

46 Hours

This participation course involves two complete weekends and the first section is devoted to adhesive dentistry's latest developments, esthetic procedures, direct posterior composites, and etiology of tooth wear and treatment options. The second seminar will include cast restorations, indirect composites and porcelain restorations.

Oral Medicine/Oral Diagnosis

12 Hours

This course includes a thorough review of important oral pathology. Local and systematic disease processes affecting the head and neck region will be presented in a case based format to engage the participant in active learning. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing, diagnosing and treating oral pathosis.

Orofacial Pain

12 Hours

This course will cover numerous orofacial pain entities that are of non-odontogenic origin and discuss the management of these conditions.
