2018MARCH IS NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTHThe Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ focus is on balanced food and beverage intake rather than emphasizing on any one specific food or meal. By planning meals and food purchases, food waste is reduced. Improving overall well-being requires a life-long commitment of healthful lifestyle behaviors, including enjoyable eating practices, and regular physical activity.All of the Developmental Centers use this 2018 theme, “: Go Further with Food” for displays, seminars, and other interactive educational activities. New Lisbon Developmental Center developed a newsletter for staff & offer nutrition handouts in the cafeteria and trading post. Residents are also engaged in nutrition-related activities. Green Brook Regional Center utilizes the USDA ‘My Plate,’ which offers ideas and tips for healthier eating as the focus of well-balanced meal intake for residents and staff. Woodbine Developmental Center organized a nutrition month fair with food, posters, nutrition education videos, and an exercise class for residents. Vineland Developmental Center is sending weekly flyers focusing on specific nutrition topics such as portion sizes, limiting sodium and sugar etc. Hunterdon Developmental Center has balloons, table tents, posters, activity sheets, and a contest about healthy eating. In the Department of Health, Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital has display posters, informative place mats for patients and a ‘meet the nutritionist’ session for staff. At Ancora Hospital, nutritionists are conducting programs for patients promoting nutrition and healthful eating. They also have an educational display in the main building lobby and treatment mall. Throughout the NJSNAP- website, you will find handy tips for eating smart, delicious recipes that fit into even the toughest budgets, updates on outdoor activities in your area and tips on how to eat healthy and be active.Registered Nutritionist Dietitians are experts regarding nutrition and food, who translate the science of nutrition and apply it to solutions for health and disease management. These professionals have undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in nutrition, public health and food science/management. Registered Nutritionist Dietitians are registered with The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. We acknowledge and thank our nutritionists for promoting wellness, positive lifestyle changes, and for meeting the special nutritional needs of many individuals who are receiving services from the Department of Human Services and the Department of Health. ................
