Fourth Quarter Book Project

Instead of completing entries for the Reading Response Notebook, students will need to complete a S.O.A.P. Analysis on a primary source inspired from content from their book and a creative project from the list below on the approved historical fiction novel. You will need to present the creative portion (Part II) to your peers. Your presentation should be between 3-5 minutes. Before the due date, please be sure to practice your presentation for the creative project portion at home!

PART I (DUE TBA)

1. Find a primary source that is inspired by content (people, places, events) from your book. Print this source and its caption (sourcing information) as evidence of its authenticity. Use this source to complete the S.O.A.P. Analysis. Remember that if you are struggling with answering questions for the S.O.A.P. Analysis, YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR PRIMARY SOURCE!

2. Complete the SOAP Analysis and attach the primary source and caption.

PART II (Due TBA) Choose one activity from the list below:

o Create a hanging mobile with (5-10) pictures and objects from the book (1/2 handmade). Explain each object/picture.

o Act out a certain scene with props, costumes, etc (live or video).

o Devise a poster to advertise your book (36” X 24” minimum sized (may be larger) with at least ½ of the illustrations as hand-drawn/colored).

o Make a diorama (must be shoebox size or larger).

o Write a 5-paragraph letter to a character in the story (include envelope and friendly letter format).

o Tape record a 3-minute radio show about an important part in your book.

o Create a puppet show and perform for the class.

o Tell about the author and/or illustrator in essay form. Have this written out on poster size paper & include a photo.

o Make a collage with at least 10 overlapping pictures & cutouts to illustrate items from the book. Each illustration should be explained how it relates to the book.

o Paint a mural of the story or parts of it (must be poster size or larger).

o Make a list of “10 Rules to Live By” the main character(s) live(s) by (Must include hand-drawn pictures).

o Design/Wear a costume the character(s) might have worn. Have items with the costume & explain their role in story.

o Prepare newspaper articles about the characters’ activities. Include headlines, etc.

o Make a report card for your book, including grades for setting, plot, characters, etc. and comments to explain your grade choice.
