Junior Accountant Finance Financial Controller Exempt December 20, 2014

SUMMARY

The Junior Accountant is responsible for the entry, analysis and maintenance of the general ledger with particular focus on accounts payable and disbursements, cash management support, monthly and year end close support, and participation in the implementation of sound internal and compliance controls. S/He will work closely with the Senior Accountant and will report directly to the Financial Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages all aspects of headquarters accounts payable (A/P) including review of supporting documentation (e.g., vendor invoices, employee expense reports, company credit card statements, wire requests); processing of both payable checks and outgoing wires; recording and accuracy of A/P transactions; managing historic records; and serving as the primary contact for A/P inquiries.

Prepares and records assigned journal entries for monthly closing. Reconciles specified general ledger accounts. Reviews for accuracy and corrects posting entries.

Prepares monthly cash trends reports for all headquarters bank accounts. Prepares and distributes periodic internal financial reports. Participates in monthly and annual closing as required. Monitors and tracks financial activities of special events in coordination with Fundraising team,

Supports the Fundraising team in reconciling donations as reported in the Salesforce donor management system with recording in the Sun financial system. Assists in assuring internal control procedures are followed. Performs monthly IQ billing Enters currency exchange rates in each business unit in Sun Financial System monthly Works with communications/marketing manager to reconcile donations in Sun Financial System with donations in Salesforce donations system. Responsible for banking receipts. Manages the accounting records and files, including A/P, journal vouchers, cash receipts, cash deposits, bank statement reconciliations, investment account statements. Maintains an orderly accounting filing system Prepares the 1099 on an annual basis Records and reconciles fixed asset transactions. Helps ensure accounting policies, procedures are being followed. Performs other duties as requested.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA candidate preferred. Four to six years of related accounting experience in an international nonprofit setting Good understanding of accounting principles and practices Proficient with email and MS Office applications, especially Excel and Word Experience with accounting software. Prior experience with Sun systems software preferred

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to work effectively in a multicultural team environment

Analytic and detail-oriented, with good organizational skills. Self-motivated, with high initiative and able to work with minimal supervision Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked and fast paced environment with firm deadlines.

OTHER Travel to both international and domestic areas with minimum physical comforts may be required; a valid passport is required at all times. Travel immunization may be required and will vary based on travel location(s). Office work hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. However, communication with international staff frequently requires availability outside of normal work hours. Work is performed primarily in an open office environment, but may be performed remotely with the approval of the Controller.
