FUNCTIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Overview

Responsible for case management and legal representation of low-income immigrants in their immigration cases before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service. Reports to Staff Attorney Supervisor, and operates under general supervision with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

Essential Job Function

|20 |Conduct initial assessments on immigration cases to determine eligibility for immigration benefits |

|50 |Prepare immigration cases in family based immigration matters, adjustment of status, Citizenship and Naturalization, VAWA |

| |petitions and other immigration matters |

| |Assist supervising attorney with preparation of court documentation |

|10 |Monitor and maintain an organized case load |

|10 |Plan and coordinate outreach events to the community |

| |Assist supervising attorney with preparation of materials for outreach events |

|10 |Prepare grant reports |

| |Serve as CCCTX Waco Office Coordinator – Liaison for building maintenance and personnel matters |

Selection Criteria

Knowledge of:

• Knowledge of and skill in immigration laws and procedures

• Knowledge of Waco area resources

Ability to:

• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, especially with local Hispanic immigrant communities

• Ability to advocate for immigrant rights and Catholic Social Teachings

• Ability to read, write and speak in English and Spanish

Skill in:

• Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing

• Organizational skills

• Basic computer skills

• Analytical and Research Skills

Practicing Catholic in good standing required:   yes _____  no X

Anticipated Qualifications

Education:  Minimum Bachelor’s degree required

Experience: Previous experience as an immigration attorney or BIA Accredited Representative for a BIA recognized agency is preferred

Licenses/Certifications: Board of Immigration Appeals Accreditation Required for non-attorneys

Working Conditions

Travel and regular weekend and evening work is required.
