Plan for Success

Plan for Success

Student: What are your dreams for your future? _________________________________________

We want to ensure that you reach your goals. Here are some examples of why your grades do not reflect your ability at this time:

Don’t understand the material; lack motivation (lazy); unorganized (backpack and binders are messy); too much television/video games/internet chat; poor work habits; trouble focusing (bored, daydream); personal matters; too many absences; distractions (friends calling, siblings, pets); procrastinate; don’t know where to get help.

Please list why you think you are not reaching your goals for A’s and B’s in all of your classes:

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

□ Check and sign your child’s homework agenda daily. If you notice that your child has left a subject blank, have him/her fill in the assignment by calling a friend or checking online. Writing “NO HOMEWORK” is not acceptable. Have your child study vocabulary, review or preview their next chapter.

□ (Do not allow your child to watch television, play video games or chat on the Internet Mondays through Thursdays. (

□ Compare the agenda to what the teacher puts online on a regular basis and check the grades/assignments on Schoology. If you have trouble getting onto Schoology, have your child give you their password.

□ Assign rewards or consequences for the weekend based upon completion of agenda, homework completed and organization of folders/backpack.

□ Be aware of weekly tests and homework packets that are due. For example, a teacher might give tests every Thursday and collect homework packets on Wednesdays.

□ Check you child’s backpack regularly for loose papers. Have your child empty the backpack and file the loose papers in the proper folders/binders.

□ The agenda book is a form of communication between you and the teacher. Write your questions for the teacher in the agenda book.

□ Make sure your child eats a balanced diet (low in fat and sugar and high in protein) and gets plenty of exercise.

□ Make sure your child gets nine hours of sleep - - this is the optimum amount of sleep for an adolescent child.

□ Show a daily interest in your child’s academic life. “Tell me what you learned in school today?” or “What was most interesting thing you did in class today?” are examples of open-ended questions that will elicit a response.
