Center for Instructional Support Program Catalog 2020-2021DESE welcomes educators from across the state to participate in our 2020-2021 network and workshop offerings, both in-person and online. In light of any continuing restrictions or concerns due to COVID-19, we are prepared to change any offering scheduled as an in-person event to an online format as needed. These offerings are designed to support educators to advance teaching and learning across the Commonwealth. We are calling on classroom leaders, school leaders, and district leaders to join us and collaborate across districts to learn, to test and refine tools and strategies, and to innovate. You’re invited to join DESE’s 2020-21 Evaluating & Selecting High-Quality Instructional Materials for ELA, Math, and Science Network.The Evaluating & Selecting Network combines 3 in-person differentiated sessions with monthly personalized virtual support to guide district teams through a strong instructional materials selection process for ELA, Math, and/or Science in any K-12 grade span. Working directly with Department staff and using Department-created tools and resources, district teams will collaborate and increase their understanding of the evaluation, selection, and implementation phases of the instructional materials adoption process by establishing district priorities and vision, engaging school and community members in evaluating and selecting curricular materials, and by creating a launch and implementation plan. Participants commit to attend all sessions of the Network, including a virtual kickoff, monthly virtual meetings, and in-person convenings.Applications should be completed by the team leader (administrator) of the district’s evaluation and selection committee. The focus of the EL Leadership Networks will be to explore a relevant topic each month and work together in Professional Learning Networks on a topic of their choice. Some district leaders will analyze state and local graduation and dropout rates and consider factors that may impact student success in secondary schools. Participants will develop a district action plan to improve outcomes for high school English learners after they analyze various state and local data sources and consider the factors that impact student success in secondary schools.? In addition to other EL related topics, the EL Leadership Network will also explore opportunities to increase the capacity of district bilingual programs as well as discuss the most recent research projects sponsored by OLA . Districts will be involved in the follow-up work related to the research projects led by OLA and provide input to OLA in their efforts to develop policies and strategies aligned to the findings of the research projects. Districts will also learn about the English Learner Education Vision and Blueprint and will build community to give programmatic decisions and reinforce the ideals expressed in the Vision for English Learner Education. Districts and OLA will work collectively at classroom, school, district, and state levels to bring ideals in the Vision to life and provide best educational opportunities to meet English learners’ linguistic, academic, and socio-emotional needs.
