KINSTON HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR CLASS 2021 August 2020

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

You must have an ACT or SAT score before you are admitted or before applying for scholarships to a four-year university. Your application for admission and scholarships should be completed as soon as possible. Deadline for most universities is November/December.

Remember in order to receive institutional scholarships (those awarded directly by the universities) you must complete an application for admission and scholarship application.

ACT – Students are encouraged to register online at . Before taking the ACT be sure to review the free information online regarding preparing for the ACT. Also, there are review books that can be purchased at most any book store. I have information in the guidance office regarding ACT prep classes that are taught in Enterprise for $140, if you are interested. Also, don’t forget that you have free access to the ACT online prep.

SCHOLARSHIP PACKET – There is a list of possible scholarships available on the school website under my Guidance Page listed when you click forms. Please contact me if you need help locating that or if you do not have access to the internet and need a hard copy of the packet. ***There will be scholarships listed in this packet that are no longer offered, however, it is still a good resource.

Selective Service: If you are a male age 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. According to law, a male must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. Selective Service will accept late registrations but not after a man has reached age 26. You may be denied benefits or a job if you have not registered. You can register at any U.S. Post Office or online at .

As a prospective student-athlete at a Division I or Division II institution you have certain responsibilities to attend to before you may participate. Information is available through your coach, the guidance office, or through the NCAA Clearinghouse website at . From the NCAA Clearinghouse website, prospective student-athletes are able to access information needed to understand the Division I and Division II eligibility requirements, register with the Clearinghouse and access individual Clearinghouse records. A fee is required to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse.

College/Career Activities will look different this year. Most everything will be virtual. I will be distributing information via senior newsletters like this, Remind, and Google Classroom and at times on the school and senior Facebook pages. Make sure that you routinely check all of these.

Here is the first opportunity from the University of Alabama several other colleges. While this year may look a little different, we want to support our seniors in the Wiregrass Area by continuing to make the college decision-making process as easy as possible. A group of universities have come together to form a college panel and we will be hosting a “virtual” session for prospective students and their parents. Our goal is to provide them with a base knowledge of the college search process, college admissions and the application process, and scholarships/financial aid.

This “virtual” college panel will take place over Zoom. Zoom is free for participants to use. In order to protect the privacy of students and their families, all guests will have their microphones and cameras set to be off. We will be using Zoom Webinar function so only the college representatives will have their microphones and cameras on.

We would like to encourage all your seniors to join us on Tuesday, September 1st at 6:00pm. They can register at adm.ua.edu/register/wiregrass-college-night.

The participating universities:

• Auburn University

• The University of Alabama

• The University of Alabama at Birmingham

• Troy University

• University of South Alabama

Students/parents will be invited to join this zoom from the following counties: Barbour, Covington, Coffee, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike.
