Transport Canada Safety Recall #2019159: Failure of Tailgate Lights Dear Acura MDX Owner: In accordance with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act (CMVSA), we are notifying you of a safety recall that applies to your vehicle. Honda Motor Co. has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2014-2019 model year Acura MDX vehicles. Please confirm the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) above matches the VIN on the upper left of your vehicle's dashboard. What is the problem? On certain 2014-2019 Acura MDX vehicles, moisture may enter the taillights mounted on the tailgate due to an uneven sealing surface at the back of the lights. Moisture intrusion into the tailgate lights could result in an electrical short-circuit which may lead to one or more taillights becoming inoperable. Inoperable taillights may make the vehicle less visible thereby increasing the risk of a crash. To correct this issue, the vehicle's tailgate lights will be either repaired or, if necessary, replaced. What should you do? Please contact your Acura dealer to schedule an appointment to have your vehicle's inner taillights repaired. The dealer will perform this recall service free of charge. Your dealer will be able to give you an estimate of how long they will require your vehicle - usually less than a day.
