XM DEBUTS NEW PUBLIC RADIO CHANNEL ON SEPTEMBER 1

Washington D.C., August 31, 2004 -- XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: XMSR), the nation's leading provider of satellite radio with more than 2.1 million subscribers, will debut the new XM Public Radio channel (XM Channel 133) this Wednesday, September 1. XM Public Radio, the newest addition to XM's critically-acclaimed programming line-up, will feature programs from Public Radio International (PRI) and its station partners Chicago Public Radio and WGBH Boston; American Public Media, the national production and distribution branch of Minnesota Public Radio; and Boston public radio station WBUR.

XM Public Radio will feature a host of critically-acclaimed public radio programs, including This American Life, Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know?, Garrison Keillor's The Writer's Almanac, Speaking of Faith, On Point, and Only a Game, among others.

In addition, award-winning public radio newsman Bob Edwards will host a new morning interview program, The Bob Edwards Show, exclusive to XM Satellite Radio, which is scheduled to debut on October 4. Edwards hosted National Public Radio's "Morning Edition" for 25 years, attracting more than 13 million listeners weekly. In 1999, he and the show received a prestigious Peabody Award for excellence in broadcasting. Edwards was recently selected for induction into the Radio Hall of Fame. He has also received the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Corporation
