Installing or Upgrading Spreadsheet Budgeting

I. Remove old version – don’t skip this step

A. If you have Microsoft Excel open, close it before proceeding.

B. Open the Windows Control Panel and double-click on “Add or Remove Programs”.

C. Under the “Currently installed programs” list look for “SCT Desktop Tools”. If you find it, then:

1. Click on it once to highlight it, then click the “Change/Remove” button.

2. When asked “Are you sure you want to completely remove” the program, click “Yes”.

3. The uninstall program will run. If asked if you want to remove shared files, choose “No to All”.

4. When the uninstall is complete, click “OK”.

5. Close the “Add or Remove Programs” window, and close the Control Panel.

D. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, look for this folder: C:\sct\banner\goddtop\

1. If this folder exists and contains any files, delete the files now.

2. Move up to the C:\sct\banner\, folder and delete the goddtop folder.

3. Go to the folder C\:temp\, and delete any files there whose names start with “goddtop”.

II. Download the new files

A. At the same location where you found this document, ,

click on client_SSB_install_files.zip

B. Choose “Open” (you’ll need software capable of opening a zip file, e.g.: WinZip, FreeZip, etc.).

C. Extract the two files and save them to the folder C:\temp\

D. Close your unzipping software.

III. Install Desktop Tools

A. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, navigate to the C:\temp\ folder.

B. Close any other open programs because you’ll need to restart your PC when the installation finishes.

C. Double-click on the file “goddtop-setup.exe” (the “.exe” may or may not show up).

D. Files will install, then you’ll see a “Welcome” dialog box. Click “Next”.

E. Click “Yes” on the license agreement, and click “Next” to continue.

F. When you see the dialog box “Do you want to update the SCT Desktop Tools DLL?”, click “Yes”.

G. Click the “Find new DLL” button and navigate to the C:\temp folder.

H. Select the file “goddtop.dll” and click “Open”, then click “OK”.

I. When setup completes, click “Yes” and “Finish” to restart your computer

J. After the restart, open Microsoft Excel.

IV. Configure Excel

A. If you have Excel 2003:

1. Under the Tools menu select Macro, then Security. Set your security to Medium and click “OK”.

2. Under the Tools menu select Add-Ins, then click the “Browse” button.

3. Navigate to the folder “C:\sct\banner\goddtop”.

4. Select “DesktopTools.xla”, and click “OK”.

5. You now have a menu item called “Banner” to the right of “Help” on your top Excel menu bar.

B. If you have Excel 2007:

1. Under [pic] click Excel Options | Add-Ins | Go | Browse.

2. Navigate to the folder “C:\sct\banner\goddtop”.

3. Select “DesktopTools.xla”, and click “OK”, then click “OK” on the Add-Ins window.

4. Click the “Add-Ins” tab to the right of “View” on your top Excel menu bar.

5. If you have problems configuring Excel 2007, decrease you macro security level and try again:

Under [pic] click Excel Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings | Macro Settings

V. Test Your Installation

A. Click the “Banner” menu item in Excel and select “Connect to Database”.

B. Enter your Banner username/password and the database name (TST7, REPT, or MSTR).

C. Click “Connect”.

D. If your account has the correct security, you will see some SSB menu options under the “Banner” menu item. What you see depends upon the security granted to you. If you receive no error messages but there are no SSB wizards in the Banner menu then please contact Karen Maika at 406-994-3585 or kmaika@montana.edu. She can change your security if necessary.
