GPA - Dakota State University

How to Figure GPAs

Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is an important number. It determines academic progression, financial and scholarship eligibility, athletic eligibility, program eligibility, and of course, is available on your transcript to other schools and employers that you decide to share it with. There are four types you may see: institutional, system term, transfer, and cumulative. For complete information on GPAs, see the DSU catalog.

To determine a GPA, use the following scale:

A = 4 points

B = 3 points

C = 2 points

D = 1 point

F = 0 points

(Courses with other designations—U, S, W, etc. are not figured in your GPA.)

Multiply the number of points each grade is worth by the number of credit hours. Place that number in the GPA slot. Add up the total credit hour numbers and total GPA numbers. Divide the GPA total by the credit hours total.
