RULES FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING

1. Be sure to mute sound and have video on upon entering our meeting room.

2. Have paper, pencil & class materials readily available.

3. Please be aware that chats/meeting are being recorded, therefore proper classroom etiquette is expected. Be respectful of the teacher and your peers. Ae are all here to learn and in this together.

4. Ask questions & be an ACTIVE participant in our class! Do not hesitate to ask if you don’t understand something. The more you participate, the more you will get out of the learning process.  Use the raise your hand feature on your screen and unmute your sound when you are called on. If you are in a break out room, be sure to stay on task and keep track of the time in order to complete tasks efficiently.

5. Be sure to check the website/remind/google classroom regularly for assignments and due dates.

CONSEQUENCES FOR BREAKING ANY PART OF CLASS CONTRACT

1. Verbal Warning

2. Timeout, Loss of Privileges, and/or Student/Teacher Conference

3. Parent/Teacher Contact

4. Referral to Administration

EFFORT & GRADING SYSTEM

A = 100 - 90%

B = 89 - 80% 1 = Outstanding Effort

C = 79 - 70% 2 = Satisfactory Effort

D = 69 - 60% 3 = Insufficient Effort

F = 59 - 0%

Classwork =20%

Homework =20%

Formative Assessments =25% (i.e.: quizzes, project components)

Summative Assessments =35% (i.e.: unit tests, final project grade)

NOTEBOOK/SUPPLIES

All students are required to keep a composition notebook which will be used for notes, vocabulary, and bell ringers. The student will be responsible for having this notebook to class every day, keeping it current, and organized (pages SHOULD NEVER be removed from this composition book.

In addition, the following supplies should be available for class each day:

• Agenda (1 for all classes)

• Digital device with internet access.

WORK FORMAT

Assignments that are submitted for grading will require students to upload their work page to google classroom for full credit. Our classroom work format must be used (see webpage).

ABSENCES/MAKE-UP WORK

All work is expected to be turned in on time. However, if your son/ daughter misses school for any excused reason, upon his or her return he/ she will have to make up any missed work. Work completed without an absence being excused will receive a Z until the absence is excused. It is the students’ responsibility to ask for any work missed. Make- up work should be completed in the same amount of time that is missed. This is to say, if your son/ daughter misses class once, all work should be made up the next class. If he/ she misses two days, work should be made up within two days, etc. If the excused absence involves several days, schedules can be arranged to make up the work.

LATE WORK

Late work will not be accepted, unless accompanied with an excused absence.

HOME LEARNING

Home learning will typically be assigned on a daily basis. Please ask your child and verify their agenda so that you are aware of what home learning is expected nightly. Most assignments will be sent via Remind text messages, which are also posted on the period specific links of my website, but the final say is our classroom discussion. Long term assignments such as computer based programs(iXL, Edulastic, Edgenuity, etc.) will be graded the day they are due regardless of when the student attends class (A/B) and whether or not the student is present in class.

• IXL: IXL is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of math practice questions in hundreds of skills — all of which are aligned to state standards. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress. You child will be graded on his/her “SMART SCORE.” If more than one skill is assigned then an average will be taken. The amount of time being spent on a particular tab will also be taken into account.

• GOOGLE CLASSROOM: Students will be using google classroom through the colegia platform in order to upload & submit assignments.

CLASS NOTIFICATIONS

Regular notifications will be sent via the “Remind” system. Students and parents are both advised to sign up using the provided instructions in order to receive class information via text or e-mail.

Class information/materials will be linked to google classroom. Students are responsible for checking and uploading all required assignments/work on time.

Notes and Recommendations To Parents:

• Tests/Homework: Please know that the best way to prepare for tests is to review classroom work and notes on a daily basis for 10-15 minutes and the home-learning assignments(which they have EVERYDAY) are the best tools to ensure your child understands the material. A student cannot retake a test.

• Electronic Grade-book: Parents please be aware that you can access your child’s grades online on a daily basis, in order to monitor his or her progress in the class. Also, keep in mind that it may take a while for teachers to grade assignments and record them; so grades may not appear immediately the day after an assignment is due.

Grade “Z” = Zero (assignment not done or incomplete)

Grade “F” = Unsatisfactory (poor work or number of items incorrect)

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. Please attend Back to School Night.

2. Help your child stay organized! This is critical for maximum understanding and overall success.

3. Provide a well-lit, quiet, comfortable area at home where the student can do his/her work every day.

4. Check your child’s Agenda/Notebook to ensure that he /she is writing down the homework assignments daily.

5. Have your child show you his/her completed homework assignments and ask for a short explanation of what was done.

6. Verify any information of concern that your child communicates to you about the classroom, assignments, and teacher before taking that information for granted.

7. Check your child’s grades on-line regularly (once a week is recommended). He/she will have a student password and you can establish your own online account by requesting your PIN number in the Main Office.

Please keep this contract as the first page of the Student Duo-tang.
