Abu Dhabi Education Council to install 3,000 Epson projectors in 60 schools across UAE as part of strategy to promote interactive, collaborative learning

Background

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) was established in accordance with law No. 24 of 2005, issued by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the UAE President, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and the Ruler of Abu Dhabi. ADEC seeks to develop education and educational institutions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, implement innovative educational policies, plans and programs that aim to improve education, and support educational institutions and staff to achieve the objectives of national development in accordance with the highest international standards.

In line with its mandate to elevate the quality of education in Abu Dhabi, ADEC aims to create a new teaching environment that enables teachers to deliver interactive and collaborative learning to give students a better understanding and retain new information in a very efficient way. ADEC is therefore investing in stateof-the-art education technology to achieve a higher level of productivity and teaching efficiency.

Interactive features

The EB-485Wi projector features two interactive pens. They allow teachers and students to write on the screen at the same time, making collaborative work easier. These lightweight pens are very responsive and easy to use, thanks to the new `hover' function that accurately detects when they are not in contact with the projection surface.

The Solution

Works without a PC

Abu Dhabi Education Council has commissioned Epson to install 3,000 units of EB-485Wi, Epson's second-generation of interactive ultrashort-throw projectors for the education industry, across 60 schools in the UAE that come under ADEC. The new projectors play a key role in developing an advanced and smart learning platform in the schools.

In addition to working with popular computer software, the projector has a PC-free functionality and `instant annotation' tool. Teachers can make any flat surface interactive without being connected to a PC and can even annotate moving images and photos when linked up to a DVD player. Another unique feature of the projector is its compatibility with the Epson iProjection app, giving students the ability to wirelessly connect

their iPhones and iPads and project their presentations onto a wider screen.

Students become more participative

ADEC has taken full advantage of the unique capabilities of the EB-485Wi projector to create new possibilities for both students and teachers around collaborative learning. The interactive features of the projector motivate students to be more participative and encourage them to learn more. ADEC has also discovered that the new teaching paradigm gives the students the confidence needed to express themselves and their ideas more comfortably. Epson's advanced 3LCD ultrashort- throw interactive projector is the first to be deployed in the Middle East.
