It is simple but very effective and comprises of three components:New Lesson - First time memorizationPrevious Lesson - Recent memorization (recent last 10 pages of memorization)Revision - Review of all pages memorized minus recent 10 pagesIt is imperative that the new lesson be learned and recited to the teacher with the least amount ofmistakes possible. If the new lesson is weak it will have a domino effect on the other two components.Daily ScheduleMorning Program (Full Time)Monday – Thursday7:30 am–1:30 pmHifzFriday7:30 am–NoonHifz & TarbiyyahSchedule Details:7:30 am–9:00 am New Lesson9:00 am–10.15 am Previous Lessons10:15 am–11.00 amBreak11.00 am–1:15 pm? Juz Amma)Should pass two weeks evaluation period. By the end of the two weeks, the teachersdetermine if the student is ready and fit for the programParents’ commitment - Parents will be interviewed by the Program Committee beforeaccepting the child, as this program will require additional commitment and dedicationfrom the parentsReasoning for coming up with three conditions for admission criteriaShould have memorized 30th Juz - We want commitment from parents, as this is not going to be an easy journey. By parents helping and making kids memorize 30th juz they are showing their commitment. As we know most of the parents want their children to become Hafiz, but if they are not ready to put the effort with their children, and have the home environment conducive to memorize Quran, this may result in dropouts from the program which not only affect the children themselves, but also other children in the class. By this condition we are letting the parents know that they have to be completely involved with their children in this noble effort, and also parents will get an idea on interest and capability of their children before they enrollShould be able to read Quran on their own - Once we make kids memorize, kids should have the ability to keep revising on their own in class, and at homeShould be in 3rd Grade or above - It will be very difficult for small kids to concentrate memorization for 5 plus hours. 3rd grade and up, 9 years of age and up, we can deal with most of them Insha’Allah, as they are at an age where they can focus and understand. Smaller kids will be very difficult to manage. Due to shortage of time in this class, 1 kid is enough to drain the teacher out and take away other students’ time. Two weeks evaluation period - Every student has different needs and learning styles. These two weeks give the school and parents a chance to evaluate if student is ready and if this program is the right fit. This will save both parents and teachers frustration because miss match of student to the program.Parents are responsible to enroll students in the Charter school like Ocean grove, Connecting Waters or similar home schooling programs.Parents need to be committed, supportive and should make this as number one priority and adjust the life style accordingly.Assessment, GradingDaily submissions will be recorded with comments/feedbackAfter completion of Juz student will not start new one till the previous one is thoroughTeacher will assign homework based on observation and results of daily submissionsPace and completion of memorization to be set by Teacher only. Tardiness reduces the time of the new memorization recitation for the studentwho is late2. More than one tardy in the class makes it very hard for the teacher to listen to allthe students and give them enough time.3. Late students do not get a chance to review their memorization before recitingwith the teacher, which usually results in making some mistakes.4. If students make any mistake while reciting their homework, they are supposedto get a chance to review and recite again before the end of the first period. Latestudents do not get this opportunity.Tardiness consequencesLate students may not be able to recite their new memorization with the teachers.Priority is for the students who come on time.If a student fails to recite his/her new memorization with the teacher, he/she needs torepeat the same part the next day, and will not take any new memorization. This canresult in delaying his/her memorization plan.Absence consequencesIf a student has more than five unexcused absences during one semester, schooladministration will meet with the parents to discuss the effect of these frequentabsences on the student’s progress and how his/her memorization plan may change. This will be a mandatory meeting for parents.Early Dismissal PolicyEarly Dismissal is defined as: Any student who wants to leave the school before the regular dismissal time.Early Dismissal should be monitored because:We care about the safety of our studentsA high volume of early dismissals causes frequent interruptions of classroomlearning activities.ProcedureParents must notify school admins in writing via email or by note sent with thechild on the day when early dismissal is required. The notification must includethe date and time of dismissal.Student will not be dismissed until an adult is present.Cell Phone PolicyCell phone use should be controlled because:Cell Phones have become a major distraction to the learning environment.Teachers can’t control what students do on their phones.Limitations:Parents should not allow their children to carry a cell phone unless it’s absolutelynecessary.Students are allowed to carry cell phones to school. However, phones must beturned off and stored during school hours. Phones cannot be used to talk, takepictures, play games, record or text during school hours, including recesses.Consequences of using phones during school hours (including recesses):First violation - Students will have their cell phone taken away and returned atthe end of the day.Second violation - Students will have their cell phone taken and locked up in theoffice until a parent can come to school to retrieve it.Third violation - Students will no longer be allowed to bring a phone to schooluntil a parent conference with the principal is held.Mobile electronic devices policyStudents are not allowed to use their mobile electronic devices (phone, tablets, laptop, games, etc) during school time. For every hour they miss during the hifz school day, the students are expected to make it up on their own time.?Students who will be attending online classes during hifz school hours should be extra cognizant of their time. If a student has a 9:00am online class, they should arrive promptly by 7:45am, so they have time to finish their morning classwork before leaving to attend an online class. Teachers must not be expected to make special arrangements for students attending online classes during hifz school hours.?Students will be dismissed from NHA if they have an online class starting at 12:00 pm or later. A parent or designated guardian must sign out their child(ren) under such circumstances.?If a student has three or more online classes during hifz school hours on any given day, then he/she should not come to hifz school that day.?NHA is not responsible for ensuring that students taking online classes during hifz school hours have WiFi access.?NHA strongly discourages leaving students on the computers or any other electronic devices without appropriate adult supervision. Additionally, since the NHA staff does not have the capacity to monitor the students during their online class times, parent volunteers are expected to monitor the students while they are outside of the hifz school classroom. Like any other type of education, a necessary component of your child’s success starts from your own home. The more effort you make in your child studies the more they will succeed. After all, your child completion of memorizing the Noble Quran will grant you a crown on the Day of Judgment!Get Involved! Remaining aloof from your child’s studies will be detrimental to their progress. Get involved with your child’s hifz program by inquiring about their day, listening to their new or old lessons, reviewing their progress reports tcEnvironment has an Effect! Build an environment at home that will encourage your child to spend more time with the Noble Quran. Limit video games, internet and other distractions.Don’t be Hasty! Choose quality over Quantity! A difficulty that arises in many Hifz program is when the parents are hasty and tell their child to finish as fast as they can. This will be detrimental to the child’s successCommunication is Necessary! It is vital for your child’s improvement that you stay informed of their progress. This can be done through the progress reports we will provide. In the same breadth staying in touch with the teacher will give you more insight on where further effort may be needed.Be on time! The time in class is limited and every moment is precious. A few minutes late every day will add up significant amount of time in the long run. Be sure to have arrangements made for the child to be picked up on time as well.Be early Riser! The easiest time for memorization is the earliest portion of the day. This has been tried and tested. Make a habit of sleeping early and waking up early.Eat healthy! Eating a healthy breakfast is critical to your child’s progress in class. If they come to class hungry they will not be able to give a 100 percent in their studies. Be sure to give a snack for the break we will be providing the students.Tarbiyyah! Together with a sound education, the practical implementation and nurturing of these innocent hearts and mind rests on yours and our shoulders. Let us lead by example and instill the true love of this Deen in their and our hearts for the ultimate success of this endeavor.Dua is the Secret! Asking Allah (SWT) is a key component of memorizing the Noble Quran. This is the word of Allah (SWT) and only will He allow someone to be its bearer.A Lifetime of Effort!? Becoming a hafiz is not limited to just two or three years. It is a life time commitment.?Teachers GuidelinesTeaching Methodology RelatedTajweed rules must be applied when:The teacher reads the new homework to the studentThe student practices the new home work? The student recites the daily homework to the teacherStudents will practice reading the new homework with the teacher when they recite their previous lessons daily. The students may listen to it many times using the iPad afterwardsNo new homework is assigned to a student in the following cases:?If the student comes to school with weak homework. Homework is considered weak if it has more than two mistakes in one page and the student could not fix them before 9:00 amIf the previous lesson (last 10 pages the student has memorized) is weak, in which case it is important that we stop the new homework and avoid building something new on a weak basisTeachers should consider giving a student lesser homework if they feel the student is not able to handle the loadClass time is divided into four parts every dayHomework (7:45 – 9:00): During this time the teachers listen to all students’ homework that was assigned the previous day. No homework would be accepted after 9:00 amPrevious lesson (9:10? – 10:15): Students take turns to recite to the teacher their last 10 pages (maximum) of what they have memorized (which is considered the previous lesson). If this going slow for a student, consider reducing future homeworkNew memorization time:? Student spend 30 minutes (or more depending on how much time the student has) on homework for the next day. These 30 minutes time slot can be any time after student done giving the 'previous lessons' to Teacher. For example, Student can utilize break time or 30 minutes before leaving home or use the time in between after his/her assigned job is done.BreakIn daylight savings time, break will be from 10:15 – 11:00. There will be an in-place stretch break for students at 9:10 amIn normal time (when daylight savings are off), break will be from 10:30 – 11:00 and there will be no stretch break (as the students get a break for dhuhr at 12:30)Review: Review is actual memorization.?The teachers to make sure there is quality review of 1–2 juzs every day to ensure the student can recite the juzs reviewed from memory with no (or minimal mistakes).?Students can work on their review ajzaa’ and need to be ready to recite their review when their turn comes.?If needed, the teacher can listen to the student’s review in 5-page pattern at a time if the teacher finds the juz needs more work.Students with more than 20 juz are expected to review up to?3 Juz a day during class time with at the least 1 juz to recite to Teacher and the other 2 Juz to recite to another student. This review will be done in two ways:Teachers will listen a Juz from old memorized JuzsStudents will work in pairs (group of two) by themselves while waiting for their turns. Teachers will assign the pairs at the beginning of the class. We encourage all students to have their own Quran to mark their mistakes in the harakaat (vowels) and review them regularly so they can avoid them eventually.
