POSITION: Associate Dean – Health Sciences – North Metro Campus

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Associate Dean of Health Sciences reports to the Dean of Health Sciences to foster effective cooperation, coordination, and communication across multiple campuses with regards to the college’s Health Sciences Academic division. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Dean are to provide leadership within the division, develop and direct the admission processes for health sciences programs, and to oversee the advisement and counseling services offered to students enrolled in health sciences programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree required in a course of study related to the occupational field.

• Two or more years of full time teaching, advising, counseling or supervisory experience in a post-secondary institution.

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• One year of full-time work experience developing and supervising student advisement programs in a post-secondary education setting.

• Two years of full-time experience teaching, advising, counseling or supervising at a TCSG college.

• Resides in one of Chattahoochee Technical College’s service area counties.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary $61,705.19 Annually. Benefits include: paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Dean of Health Sciences reports to the Dean of Health Sciences to foster effective cooperation, coordination, and communication across multiple campuses with regards to the college’s Health Sciences Academic division. The primary responsibilities of the Associate Dean are to provide leadership within the division, develop and direct the admission processes for health sciences programs, and to oversee the advisement and counseling services offered to students enrolled in health sciences programs.

MAJOR DUTIES

Student Advisement & Counseling

• Develop and implement advisement model for the Health Sciences division to include prospective, new and current students

• Direct supervision of full-time and part-time Health Sciences academic advisors

• Work with Program Directors to develop advisement talking points for specific programs

• Work with student affairs to coordinate orientation and registration sessions for new students

• Ensure that appropriate counseling services are provided to Health Sciences students

• Direct supervision the Health Sciences Counselor

• Work with program directors to develop counseling referral protocol

• Develop and implement counseling outreach activities

Health Sciences Program Admission (excluding ASN)

• Work with Health Sciences Program Directors to establish admission criteria and deadlines

• Ensure that admission criteria is published and transparent

• Develop Consistencies between programs

• Coordinate Application Sessions

• Ensure content of application sessions is clear and accurate

• Work with Health Sciences Program Directors to schedule application sessions

• Coordinate advisors for application sessions

• Coordinate and Supervise the applicant to admission process

• Develop accurate records that reflect applicants’ records

• Identify the applicants for program admission using admission criteria and applicants’ records

• Notify applicants of admission status

Program Directors & Staffing (Lab Assistants, Adjunct Faculty)

• Coordinate program orientations with Health Sciences Program Directors to ensure content is consistent between programs

• Ensure that Health Sciences programs have adequate adjunct faculty and/or lab assistants to meet established goals

• Coordinate with Program Directors to ensure job openings are posted

• Coordinate and oversee the adjunct hiring process to meet HR requirements

• Serve as the official supervisor/ hiring official of all adjunct faculty in Health Sciences programs

• Ensure that adjunct schedules meet the college’s ACA guidelines

Maintain Accuracy of Health Sciences Program Information Posted in the College’s Web Site

• Assure current program admission requirements are posted accurately to the college’s web page site

• Assure current program data required by accrediting agencies is posted accurately to the college’s web site

• Assures FAQ’s are current and accurate, and posted to the college’s web site

• Assures essential skills requirements are current and accurate and posted to the college’s web site

Student Relations

• Serve as Associate Dean in Grade Appeal Process for all Health Sciences programs (excluding ASN)

• Work to resolve student issues that arise in the division

Collaboration with CTC Departments

• Actively works with faculty, deans, directors, and VPAA as part of the Academic Leadership Team.

• Works to ensure the consistent exercise of college and TCSG academic policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and other criteria or guidelines among all and across all campuses.

• Works with Human Resources personnel to coordinate new faculty and staff hires; verifies appropriate qualifications

• Coordinates with the Dean to deal with personnel issues.

• Serves on appropriate college standing and ad hoc committees. Recommends to dean faculty and staff assignments to standing and ad hoc committees.

• Participates in review of college academic policy.

Administration, Reporting & Record Keeping

• May compile program statistics such as enrollment, in-term and between-term retention rates, graduation rate, and placement rate to ensure program viability

• Ensures adherence of faculty/staff to work schedule and office hours

• Coordinates with the Dean to review and administer budgets under assigned areas of supervision

• Ensures faculty/staff adherence to budget and purchasing requirements

• Maintain records of program applicants for required period of time

Active involvement within the community

Other responsibilities as directed by the dean.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Dean assigns work in terms of general instructions requiring the employee to use much judgment. The supervisor reviews the work for the nature and propriety of the final results of the work.

Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, TCSG policies and procedures are used in this work. The position requires a candidate who is self-directed, with higher critical thinking and problem solving abilities.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position.

The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table but includes standing and walking. Work is usually performed in an office setting.

Supervisory responsibility may include faculty, staff, directors, and coordinators in the division.

• The ability to implement technology into instruction.

• Knowledge of the functions and objectives of health sciences and academic support programs and service.

• Resides in one of Chattahoochee Technical College’s service area counties.
